Border guards at a crossing in southeastern B.C. walked off the job overnight, in response to a U.S. police bulletin about an armed and dangerous fugitive.

Montana police had issued an alert to the Roosville border crossing south of Fernie that they were chasing a man believed to be armed and dangerous – and heading north.

The lone guard stayed on duty until the shift change early Thursday morning.

I predict that pretty soon bulletins about armed fugitives in Florida will cause Canadian Border Guards to walk-off the job.

Just as soon as they cross into Georgia.

They should all abandon their posts. Seriously...there is no point in even having an unarmed border guard.

Yes, that is the problem. Peper isn't nearly as effective.

On a serious note, I can't blame them if all they do have is pepper spray. Typical kid gloves US policies made by people sitting behind bullet proof glass.

The US doesn't set policy for Canadian border guards.

It was my understanding that the ones that walked off, armed with only pepper spray, were Americans. No?

No. From the article.
The B.C. guards have only pepper spray. The guards want guns. The Canadian government is so anti-gun they won't let even the "guards" have guns. This incident may get guns for them as they had been "promised".
