Senate to consider immigration in late March

WASHINGTON --Majority Leader Bill Frist told a group of key lawmakers involved in immigration legislation the Senate will take up the issue on March 27, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said Thursday. "That's when the fireworks begin on the floor," Cornyn said. Cornyn was among the handful of Republican senators who met in Frist's office for the strategy session. Also at the meeting were Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl and Sens. Mel Martinez of Florida, Richard Lugar of Indiana, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the Judiciary Committee chairman. Cornyn is optimistic the Senate bill will include President Bush's proposal for an expanded immigrant guest worker program to help curb illegal immigration. "Obviously everyone understands border security is the foundation of any comprehensive bill," Cornyn said, "but I think in the Senate there's also broad acceptance of the need to deal with not just security issues but economic issues as well, which means a temporary worker program to in some way deal with 11 million (illegal immigrants) here."

Let's be realistic. The Democrats want the illegals to vote their way. That is what this will be all about.

We will push for his early removal if he toes the DC elitist line and pushes "Amnesty-lite"

Glad to hear that, I too am a voting Texan. What can we Texans do about Cornyn and politicians who won't do anything to protect us and our border? Other than in the voting booth, are there other plans?

"There isn't much of a difference between the two parties on a whole host of issues - illegal invasion being one of them.

Ahhh I remember when I was young and naive and actually thought there was a two party system and that was good for the country.

I never really noticed until lately how much both sides are alike on some issues, BUT after those few issues that's were we part company.:)

Me thinks it would be wise for politicians of all shapes and sizes to realize that 2006/2008 and the voting booth is fast approaching and we as citizens can show them we dont approve of their pushing us around.

Cornyn sent out a bunch of "vote for me" junk mail this week. Didn't really read it closely but don't remember anything on illegals.

If you think Cornyn is bad (which it is), you should see what Arlen Spinctor has in mind. He Chairs the Judiciary Committee so he will have a lot of control over the bill that will eventually hit the Senate Floor.

He has managed to combine the worst features of Cornyn/Kyl with the worst features of the McCainneddy Shamnesty. It is an abomination! Like Kyl/Cornyn it throws every American job open to competition. Like the McCainneddy Shamnesty, neither the current illegals or the new guests are ever required to leave. They all get put on the path to permanent citizenship. It is a guestworker plan in name only. It is actually a huge amnesty and a massive expansion of legal permanent immigration.

"That's when the fireworks begin on the floor,"

They've been going on for years out here, Senator Cornyn!

Yes, there are other plans. Starting with economic sanctions against the RNC. No more dinero until three things happen. First, enforcement of existing immigration laws. Second, a diplomatic b!tchslapping of Mexico for encouraging armed incursion. Third, a restructure of the US Border Patrol to eliminate corruption.

Until then, my spare change will go to the Minuteman project and the Salvation Army.

There will be a concerted grass roots effort by www.numbersusa.com to let the Senate know how Americans feel about amnesty and illegal immigration.

Believe me, the House was not aware of the feelings of everyday Americans until we absolultely tied up their phones and fax machines for a week last December.

Result? On excellent anti immigration bill.

The Senate will hear from us in March.

Please, join us. It costs nothing. You will be prompted to phone, fax and email with specific, detailed issues.

It surprised the hell out of the house. The Senate is next.

Believe me when I say Brownback is every bit as bad as Cornyn, and he is on the Judicary Committee. He will tell you up front a fence will not work. I asked him in a meeting why, because it clearly worked in Israel. I think it is obvious they will refuse to put up a fence, because that will stop the business of illegal immigration as usual. We have our work cut out for us getting these Judas out of office.

The entire Senate is just a wholly owned subsidiary of the US Chamber of Commerce.

This nation will not be righted until the quislings have had their way. Hell, let them win. It will leave this nation in ashes, but at least we can start anew referencing God and acting like our forefathers intended for the first time in decades.

Sound like you're just hitting the bad side of the manic-depressive cycle. I make myself look at what's still going right and reassess the overall situation from that standpoint. The other path only leads to deep despair and self-destruction...and I'm not going to grant the evil bastards trying to screw everything up that favor!

So far the only thing going RIGHT is apparently the majority of Americans are beginning to realize that Washington and the political parties down there don't give a horses's @$$ what the aveerage American happens to think about a horde of illegal invaders swarming across our boarders - along with a number of other things.

The Constitution doesn't say ANYTHING about a "right" to abort a baby.

The Constitution DOES define treason ( as in Cindy Sheehan ). It also give Congress the authority to set the punishment for the same.

The Constitution DOES say something about Congress having the authority to call up the militia to repel invasions.

The problem isn't with the Constitution. The problem is with the cabals which have seized control of the functions of government and the Courts and employ the law-enforcement establishment to carry out their un-Constitutional or extra-Constitutional activities.

I agree - I was just pointing out the necessity of staying positive for the sake of one's own mental health.

You know me and I read most of your posts. We are the conservatives the neocons and WSJ crowd wish would curl up and die. America is still a noble ideal, the grand experiment for which many thousands have laid down their lives to perpetuate. When the last of us still believing that stop breathing only THEN can the neos behave as if the United States is some sort of marketable commodity whose sovereignty and freedoms can be bartered like so much stock.

there is great difference between the two parties.

Most republicans are against bush's plan.

Look at the border security bill. Almost all the dems voted against the house bill for the border fence.

Compare Mike Pence to Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi.

Dean and pelosi want full amnesty. Stop the lies about no difference between the two parties. Those lies are going to get us a san francisco liberal like pelosi running this nation.
