How Google Censors It's Chinese Portal

Google is a window on the world, but your view can depend on whether you're in the West or the East.

Search for images of "Tiananmen," as in Tiananmen Square, scene of the 1989 student democracy protest, on the China site, Google.cn. Most of the time the results turn up pictures of the Beijing plaza: a flock of birds soaring above the grounds, the square all lit up at night, tourists posing for the camera.

I no longer use google. I refuse. I now use 'mamma' (the mother of all search engines) and so far it is fine.

Well, just put a Marxist like Hitlery in the White House, and you won't have any choice. The first thing she would do is go after CONTROL OF THE NEW MEDIA, lock it down and tax it to death. She would have the entire MSM behind her efforts too.

There are only a few actual search engines. Most of the less well known ones simply run google, yahoo and msn in the background and give you the results. I'm not sure that yahoo and msn don't buy their data from a third party.

I endorse clusty.com. Nicely organizes results by theme into folders. Doesn't censor. Doesn't bow down to the People's Republic.

What's funny is that the man standing before the tanks is still there on page 5 of the Chinese image listings.

Tiannamen in simplified chinese (gb) (天安门)

Image results on US google

Note these images include a lot from the ChiCom sites but also has tank images of 1989 and even Zhao Ziyang in 1989 at the square shortly before he was arrested and deposed as President for not endorsing the slaughter about to come.

Results from google.cn

Nothing but ChiCom official sites.

Search for liusi in gb code (六四) ie six-four, the reference to the June 4th massacre.

google.com

google.cn

In uncensored google pretty much all the photos relate to the massacre.

None at google.cn

It would be interesting to see what happens when you search for Fulan Gong on each Google search. My guess is you would find all flowers and peace on the Western Google and the horrors of this cult on the Chinese Google.

Which would be the propoganda in that case?
