To turn that aside, an emphasis on the stories of missionaries, of the role of Christianity in the Abolition of slavery and in the Civil Rights movement, would be a good thing.

Actually, the leftists think that Christian missionaries are agents of imperialism and that it is a bad thing to disturb stone age cultures with Christ's message. In the later regard, they are right in one respect, His message has always been revolutionary, wherever it appears and the powers-that-be never approve of it.
