AMSTERDAM — "Comparing me to Osama bin Laden does the man a great wrong and extends me too much honour I don't deserve, Mohammed Bouyeri said at the start of his speech from the dock on Thursday.
"But it fills me with me with honour, pride and joy that you see me as the black standard-bearer of Islam in Europe," he told the prosecution.
Dutch-Moroccan Bouyeri, 27, is serving a life sentence for the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh in Amsterdam on 2 November 2004.
Although he cannot receive a further sentence he is among a group of Muslim men on trial in Amsterdam for alleged membership of the Hofstad group. Prosecutors allege this is a terrorist organisation.
The Hofstad trial has entered its final stages and defence lawyers have been making final submission to the panel of three judges. Bouyeri exercised his right to address the court in person.
He has consistently argued that he acted alone in killing Van Gogh and that the Hofstad group is a fiction invented by the authorities. His co-accused agree.
Bouyeri, dressed in a traditional Arabic garment with a red and white scarf on his head, began his address with a Muslim confession of his faith in Arabic. A translator interpreted his words for the court.
The judges have set aside three hours for his speech.

I wonder when Europe, or for that matter the United States, is going to realize that Islamists are all radical and fanantics. Islam by definition is intolerant and will not abide other religions or atheists.

Even cowards have strength in numbers, hopefully the Norwegians will find strength as others in Europe stand up.
