We don't need one red cent in additional spending, nor do we need a "guest" worker program. We are in debt and we already have H1B and H2B guest worker programs.

We need less laws, less federal programs and less federal government. This speech could have been made by a Democrat from the 80s.

"Donner Party" applied to Political Party

In reverse cronological order, and after searching through about 15 California Recall Election threads (I found no "Donner Party" references), here are a few "Donner Party" references applied to political parties. Bill Press has the earliest one ... so far.
"The Republican state convention in San Jose is going to be the Donner Party of the 21st century," he said by phone. The anger that conservatives have toward Schwarzenegger will lead many to stay home from the polls in November, Mulholland predicted.

The Donner Party lives.
I have a new personal posting policy. As soon as I see the word "RINO" I quit reading.
Why waste brain cells? There's better stuff out there.

This sucks. I protest. I wanted -MY- pick. Alito is not MY pick. I bet Coulter, Frumm, Krauthammer and all those OTHER Donner Party jerks will agree with ME ME ME!!! I'm going to be in a snit, and will make IRRATIONAL arguments in order to DIVIDE the GOP over this pick. I can't believe GWB would be so divisive to actually pick a MALE for this post.

One thing is true the Republican Party is no longer the Republican party it is fast becoming the Donner party.

Howard Dean is taking over the bloody reigns from Terry McAuliffe, who had a hand in turning the Democrats into politics' answer to the Donner-party crossing.

But strictly politically speaking, the democrats are in a turnip truck full of trouble because their front-line leaders on the virtual battlefield are the exact types who guided them to the electoral wilderness.

Decentralized and hard to control, these are the leaders of the Donner Party. They will soon be lost and eating one another, many in California, ironically.

16. A poster on FreeRepublic.com came up with what I thought is a brilliant analogy for the current state of the Democrat Party. He supposes that it is the political equivalent of the Donner Party. Lost in the wilderness and eating its own.

Donner Party Platform

Started as a comment to this Corrente post but I started rambling. Tresy's entry is about a David "Babbling" Brooks NYT opinion column in which he compares the Bush Administration's invasion and occupation of Iraq to bold, hopeful but sometimes unlucky American pioneers.

But if you accidentally happen upon any coverage of the presidential campaign these days, be forewarned. What you see will not be pretty. It's a replay of the Donner Party: Democrats eating each other. And the one they're feasting on most is former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

There are only two types of "conservatives" that were disappointed.

One of course is the Robert Novak type that are "disappointed" simply to get media attention.

Then you have the Donner Party "conservatives" who are full of as much venom and hatred toward President Bush and every Republican as the Democrats are. They cannot be appeased, no matter what. They are not really conservatives but just angry little men who they their venom filled posts on an Internet site actually make them important.
