WASHINGTON -- While jumping up on cue to cheer during the speech and delivering rave reviews afterward in the Capitol's Statuary Hall, conservative members of Congress were deeply disappointed by George W. Bush Tuesday night. It was not merely that the president abandoned past domestic goals. He appeared to be moving toward bigger government.
The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst. Republican congressmen agreed privately that he was most effective at the beginning with his familiar message of why U.S. forces cannot abandon Iraq. The problem for these lawmakers was the rest of the 51-minute presentation, which was filled with unpleasant surprises.

I guess in the minds of political celebrity groupies, everything that does not serve to pay homage to their idols is a trivial pursuit.
At least we're FOR something, not against everything.
Must suck to be you.
I guess you really believe that someone who is not FOR your favorite something is against everything. That's definitely irrational.
Must suck to be you.
If I were an irrational political appologist, now that would "suck".
What if there was an arrogant elitist who turned out to be right?
read after the Super Bowl BUMP!
Arrogant elitists are often wrong.
"Ah, it's so ironic to see "conservatives" on a conservative forum defending a socialist domestic agenda. What a great day!"
They are so focused and on message, though, that it's kind of entertaining in a horrific way. It's like Night of the Living Dead, fauxconservative style.
"Must...defend...Bush...fringe...groups...suck...never...like...anything...always ...whining...Bush...real...conservative...BRAINS! BRAINS!"
I enjoy this idea that Bush's shortcomings can be defused by somehow slamming Reagan, too. Just visualize that strategy being developed:
"Hey, let's piss on the grave of the most popular conservative President in the last century, and we'll thus raise Dubya in conservative eyes. Yeah, that oughta work!"
Absolutely. The same can be said of everyone else.
One of course is the Robert Novak type that are "disappointed" simply to get media attention.
Then you have the Donner Party "conservatives" who are full of as much venom and hatred toward President Bush and every Republican as the Democrats are. They cannot be appeased, no matter what. They are not really conservatives but just angry little men who they their venom filled posts on an Internet site actually make them important.
BRAVO and a tip of my hat to you. :-)
