Conservatives Disappointed with Bush 'State of the Union' Speech
The National Ledger ^ | 2-2-06 | Robert Novak

Posted on 02/01/2006 9:51:00 PM PST by Coastal

WASHINGTON -- While jumping up on cue to cheer during the speech and delivering rave reviews afterward in the Capitol's Statuary Hall, conservative members of Congress were deeply disappointed by George W. Bush Tuesday night. It was not merely that the president abandoned past domestic goals. He appeared to be moving toward bigger government.

The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst. Republican congressmen agreed privately that he was most effective at the beginning with his familiar message of why U.S. forces cannot abandon Iraq. The problem for these lawmakers was the rest of the 51-minute presentation, which was filled with unpleasant surprises.

It sucks when my insomnia starts crashing into the "early-riser" hours.

It's worse still on alcohol-assist.

For any conservative in the know about what President Bush talked about, they would rate his speech a home run.

I never considered myself or claimed to be a “conservative,” just a bitterly partisan, frothing right-wing Republican atheist with extreme Zionist leanings.

I would say a triple with three runs batted in, and Democrats badly fielding the ball.

I think Bob Novak is as anti-Israel as Pat Buchanan.

I remember being up late enough to see the insufferable Richard "Dick" Quest come on CNN International. [shudder]

Just as I thought. You're nothing but another Bush apologizer and sycophant.

I'm flattered by your honest, sincere, congenial comment. I say that with all sincerity.

Don't omit Canaduh's border. I'm worried about that one too!

That one is expressly covered in the Patriot Act. The southern one is not expressly covered in the Patriot Act.

Beats me, why. I haven't read the full record on that.

From what you wrote I am thinking the Fed. employees have a medical plan other than Medicare and, of course, the Med. Drug Program. Before being eligible for Medicare, I spent 2 wks in hosp., 2001 or 02, and again 6 mos. later. The insurance I had covered 100%. With Medicare and a backup insurance plan, I should be covered the same way now.

My questions relate to the Med. Drug Prog. I am on a number of meds...3 from Canada...and I've had no concerns about this...now I'm wondering.

One of our daughters works for the Fed. Gov't and I will ask her about her coverage.

The husband of one of my friends retired from the Fed. Gov't and, at that time, as I recall, his pension plan was much better than what's been offered since. At some point, obviously, a change of policy was made.

I am looking into the Med. Drug Program with additional insurance.

Yet, from the outset, I have had a very negative opinion of a Medicare Drug Program. I don't know how the administrative can justify it's costs. Frankly, I'd rather have them scrutinize the pharmaceutical companies and make them justify their costs. That would go smack against free enterprise so it may not be an option.

These drug companies could save money if they stopped advertizing their products on TV, radio, or wherever. I honestly believe they should not do that. Promoting drugs via the media...it's far from professional and probably creates more problems between doctors and patients.

Save your ad money and lower the astronomical costs of some of your drugs.

Right EV, Why push a gust worker program before he proves he can control the borders? Why reward those who broke the law? and, why only pander to ONE ETHNIC group? IF we need that many workers how about some more Europeans? How about medical check so that the we won’t be exposed to incurable TB?
