Just recieved a letter from a Col. in our department where I work that contained a picture of the cartoon recently run in the Washington Post (29th Jan 06). (http://members.cox.net/subtexel/wash.bmp) I thought you all would like to see the reponse the Joint Chiefs of staff wrote up to the Washington Post in regards to the 'cartoon'. (http://members.cox.net/subtexel/washpost.pdf). I can't believe the stooped this low! The response is set to run in tomorrows paper.

It is. Sadly. From his bio, it says this:

"...What happens when a "liberal tempered with time" moves four blocks away from a "compassionate Conservative?"

This just sickens me. Now, some of my dearest and best friends are VERY liberal, but they would never laugh at or stoop to this, I think. This just takes the cake. However, that said, there is a segment of the Liberal population that absolutely would think "Yup. Serves the guy right. Shouldn't have been over there killing innocent Iraqis or Afghanis..."

Like the people at DU and the Daily Kos.

No problem. I just wanted to get this story out here as soon as I read the letter from the JCOS.. It makes me physically sick someone would make something like this to further their political agenda... Or any reason for that matter.

From DU, referring to the "cartoon":

"...The Pentagon has "complained" to the WaPo about that last one. Images of soldiers (even pen drawings) can only be used to PROMOTE the Bush agenda. They may not be used to promote the well-being of actual soldiers..."

What a steaming pantload. As if those pieces of crap over there care in the least about the welfare of "actual soldiers". They speak that way because the only "soldiers" they know are the ones from "Platoon", "Apocalypse Now" and "Born on the Fourth of July". "Actual Soldiers" are a mystery to them.

(By the way, I DID clean my mouse when I came back from DU...)

I'm gonna have to take a shower, I had to trudge through mounds of crap just to find that post... BAH! These people are using their freedoms that I and many other military vets fought for and they basically just rub our faces in it and turn on us.

Unfortunally, yes it is.

I still can't wrap my mind around it, are all liberals truly this naive? I would certainly hope not, but the dung is certainly painting them all that way. I wonder if any media outlets will pick this up? I've heard CNN did, but they did so along with the cartoon of Muhammad but blurred the one of Muhammad as to not 'offend' certain viewers but showed the soldier one in unaltered. Maybe Fox will?

THE CARTOON IS TOO SUBTLE

The patient is clearly marked as "U.S. Army", meaning the whole organization. The cartoon refers to, in the cartoonist's view, crippling cuts in the size of the military in Rumsfeld's reorganizations, the latest of which is a cut in reserves announced Tuesday. The two characters at the bottom then refer to stretching the truncated military back out.

The cartoon is being widely misinterpreted as Rumsfeld showing callousness toward wounded soldiers returning from the war.

Ummm, it's not being misinterpreted as Rumsfeld showing callousness... Tole is showing his callousness by depicting a wounded vet to further his political agenda, no matter what the message may be. He could have easily drawn something else.

The attack is a slander on the performance of the forces as a whole. I'm surprised that this has gotten sidetracked into a grievance to the wounded/killed in action. If you avoid addressing a main point you give the impression your case is weak, which is colossally untrue here. The forces are bearing up extremely well by the lights of just about any past war.

I'm not. This dirtbag deliberately exploited and mocked seriously wounded troops in order to forward his misguided political attacks on Rummy and the military as a whole.

I really can't think of anything to say. Because I can't think. Because if I think, my head will explode.

I have a monster headache, besides. Daughter is at home. Another friend of hers killed in horrible auto accident yesterday. 8th kid's funeral in a year and a half in our town. Totally unreal.

The kid's mother was beheaded by the steering wheel, head flew off and landed in a field. Only 11 year old daughter was able to climb out and 100 gals of diesel blew, she tried to climb back in to rescue her brothers. I guess the trucker they hit had to stop her. I feel like I'm living in a Steven King story. And then I see this shit.

Tasteless and protected free speech. It helps identify who the bad guys are.

Dear Lord, what a horrible tragedy. My prayers for your family, and especially that poor surviving girl and any remaining family members.

Isn't it awful. I really wish I could think of something to say about this, but I really can't 'think'. I mean, I can, but everything I think about this cartoon is base and ugly and not fit to print.
