STATE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY: MELTDOWN (Nasty feud between Howard Dean and Harry Reid )

State of the Democratic Party: Meltdown

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 1, 2006 -- Despite President Bush's weak poll numbers heading into yesterday's State of the Union address and the recent indictment of a high-profile Republican lobbyist, new information suggests that it's the Democratic party and not the GOP that is in political disarray. This according to Katharine DeBrecht, the outspoken author of the 2005 hit children's book "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" (Kids Ahead; hardcover: $15.95; ISBN 0976726904).

Going into the mid-term elections with a two-term president of the opposite party should be a golden opportunity for Democrats, notes DeBrecht, but instead there are signs of strife as attempts by liberal senators to stop the Alito nomination fell flat while the party's congressional leadership seems destined to clash with its national chairman.

"To make matters even worse, the Democratic National Committee is nearly broke," says DeBrecht, "while the Republicans have millions in the bank. When Howard Dean won the chairmanship everyone thought he'd be able to raise truck loads of money from his online supporters and the MoveOn.org crowd, but instead he's facing a rebellion from Democrats in Congress who are worried about his mismanagement."

Dean seems unlikely to take the rebellion lying down, though. Reports have surfaced that the former Vermont governor has prepared a Nixonian response by digging up dirt on Harry Reid, the Democrat's leader in the Senate. One DNC source is quoted in media reports as ominously saying that Dean's secret evidence on dealings by the Senator from Nevada makes "Jack Abramoff's lobbying work look like that of a rank amateur."

Since lobbyist Abramoff recently pleaded guilty in a high profile influence-peddling case, says DeBrecht, this posturing from one of Dean's DNC staffers suggests that Dean thinks he is in possession of extremely damaging information on the Senate minority leader. Whether Dean will disclose that information to the press or hang onto it in order to avoid an attack by the party's Congressional leadership remains unclear.

Last fall liberals including Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Fox host Alan Colmes, and MSNBC pundit Ron Reagan all vocally criticized DeBrecht's book for teaching politics to children and portraying Clinton and Ted Kennedy as cartoon villains. Clinton's spokesman twice criticized the book in published reports, while liberal blogger Andrew Sullivan called it Maoist and the Democratic Underground named DeBrecht to their "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" list. Liberal condemnations notwithstanding, the book soared to #1 on Barnes & Noble's online bestseller list following praise from Rush Limbaugh.

DeBrecht chuckles over the lack of similar cohesion among Democrats today: "Fortunately for the liberals, I have a new book -- 'Help! Mom! Hollywood's in My Hamper' -- coming out this March. It depicts Hollywood stars telling children that liberals like Hillary need to run their lives for them. Maybe that will help the Democrats find a common issue they can finally rally around."

You're right, it will be so much more entertaining (and valuable to the country) to watch the 'Rats continue to self-destruct with idiotic, demagogic leadership....

I don't think Andrew Sullivan has ever been considered a "conservative". More of a liberal who knew that his parties stance on total and complete obstruction to reforming social security was the wrong stance and he encouraged young people, based solely on the issue of privatizing social security to vote for Bush.

He was an early and vocal supporter of the decision to invade Iraq and was scathing in his criticism of the anti-war movement. But, bizarrely, the moment Bush announced his opposition to gay marriage Sullivan did a 180 on Iraq. He tied himself in rhetorical knots to explain why he dedided to support Kerry, a man for whom he had previously had nothing but contempt.

Thanks. Recent news is the first I have read it. My guess is the Libs call it secret to excuse not bringing it out more in the open.

You saw the democrat party last night when Bush warned of the Social Security collaspe and they cheered deafting his proposal last year. That is the democrat party of today, such a lack of ideas; they are reduced to cheering for doing nothing.

As with most homosexuals, their entire lives and everything they are involved with revolves around one thing and one thing only. Their sexual practices. Nothing else matters.

Sullivan was and is a conservative Catholic, but is so pro-gay marriage it throws him off balance. I saw him on a panel one time where the other gays wished him dead. I don't understand his flip-flop on the war, but I disagree it's because GW is against gay marriage.

Imagine the sorry state of a party that had to have Mr. Kaine give the response to the State of the Union address.

"Despite President Bush's weak poll numbers"

THIS IS A BIG FAT LIE - Rasmussen has the president's numbers at 51% - which is higher now than when he was re-elected in 2004.

They think if they say it often enough people will believe it - don't believe it - and tell every radio and TV person you know - THEY'RE WRONG - and give them the correct number.

I think Howlin' Howard more accurately reflects the moonbat base. They are mad as hornets at the Dim Senate leadership for not being able to filibuster "Alioto."

Yeah, but don't stand around any RATS and say that Cindy Shehan is their leader. They freak! They go ballistic. They are in total denial. Chris Mathews said that Osama in his latest tape sounded just like the DIMS talking points and they have now waged and all out war against the guy. They hold hands with Michael Moore and people like Chavez and don't get why we say that? ........I don't know whats wrong with these people? They just don't see themselves......

CHAIRMAN HOWARD DEAN, MEET YOUR ABRAMOFF DEMOCRATS

Named by the NRSC as the worst examples of "Democrat hypocrisy" for taking money from Abramoff and his associates are:
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who received at least $68,941;
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who received at least $45,750;
Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D-N.D.) who received at least $79,300, and,
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), who received at least $6,250

ABRAMOFF'S DELAWARE DEMOCRAT CONNECTION: Keep in mind that the names of Delaware Sens Joe Biden (of Judiciary anti-Alito fame) and Tom Carper surfaced on lists of federal lawmakers who received money, from the ubiquitous super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff at the center of the largest ever public corruption involving Congress and its staff members.

In brief, Abramoff and his cronies, including his aide, former Rehoboth Beach, Del lifeguard Mike Scanlon, ripped off Indian tribes seeking federal gambling licenses by playing them off each other and charging both sides millions for legal services. Carper showed up on a list produced by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which has so far tracked almost $4.5 million in contributions to some 240 lawmakers. Carper's staff found about $7,000 in campaign money linked to Abramoff, which the senator first thought he'd keep because he's never met Abramoff or his partners.

Biden received only $1,250 (that we know of), which was a straight-up individual campaign contribution. The Biden money came from one of 1,500 lawyers -- yes, that's one thousand five hundred, a scary number -- who work at Greenberg Traurig LLP, Abramoff's old law firm. G-T has offices in London, Amsterdam, Atlanta, Brussels, Chicago, New York, Zurich, Los Angeles. And, of course, Wilmington, Del.

Here's how to follow through:

"Imagine the sorry state of a party that had to have Mr. Kaine give the response to the State of the Union address."

That is an explicit admission that the olde "leadership" is ineffective.

Not Reid, Pelosi, Kerry, Gore, Clinton (pick), Kennedy.

A governor with 3 weeks in office!!!
