I appreciate your viewpoint, but I disagree, as do the Joint Chiefs. I could reserve my indignation, anger and disgust, but for what?
Sure, this was a "cartoon". I think I have a pretty good sense of humor (a conceit nearly everyone has, I suppose) but because something is stylized or fictionalized, that does not make it less offensive.
I hate to make any analogy to the Jews and Nazis, because a thoughtful person might invoke "Godwin's Law" and invalidate my viewpoint, but I think it is valid. On second thought, I don't even need to, because you know where I am going.
The point I make is, if we, as a society, cannot stick up for those who have stuck up for us (such as all the men portrayed by the fictionalized character in the "cartoon") then where have we ended up? We owe it to those men. They deserve our support when they serve in war or peace, when legislation is on the line to benefit them, when they head off to fight, when they return from war, and most of all, when they are in a hospital bed.
I apologize for the tenor, but I feel pretty strongly about this thing. As I said, I understand your point, but I feel differently.

Good information BUMP!
I love wearing the uniform and appreciate the recognition by so many FReepers. As I always say: I wouldn't have any other career. Many Army brats understand what it's like to serve, because they also suffer by being sent all over the world, attending DoD schools, not having the Grandparents right around the corner for emergencies, etc. Most Americans have little knowledge of how MUCH sacrifice is made by soldiers and their families even when we're not at war.
As another poster said, your anger could be better used elsewhere. Simply remind all your friends to not read that paper. I do- every day I remind other soldiers of anti-military actors/writers/musicians/media and that they should think about that before supporting any of these people with the money they earned by putting their lives on the line.
Have a great evening.
Thanks...I appreciate your post, and your service.
As for my anger being used elsewhere...I am a multitasking anger management machine...plenty to go around (if needed)...:)
Kind of reminds me of a great line from the movie "Open Range", where Robert Duvall makes a toast and says "Here's to good health, to them that has it comin'." (great movie, by the way, even if I can't stand Kevin Costner, I guess he's only decent in Westerns...)
I am a very happy person, believe me. I have a lot of love and appreciation for a lot of things, but boy, I sure can get hot tempered about things like this. I always appreciate someone who says (In the words of our POW's in Vietnam) "Keep a Steady Strain..."
Too bad that the cartoonist is protected by the 1st admendment which would prevent a huge amount of lawsuits presented by the wounded vets. Someone should drag his ass into Walter Reed. He acts like a typical non Service lib Alpha Hotel.
