Tragedy caused by negligence

01.02.2006

Poland’s justice minister has said that it is probable that the tragedy in Katowice was caused by negligence of the people responsible for the exhibition hall. Speaking on Polish Radio Zbigniew Ziobro added that certain doubts remain concerning the plans of the building and the construction work..

He said that the construction of the hall was to weak but added that the maintenance left a lot to be desired.

The roof of the hall in Katowice was covered with a heavy, half-meter layer of snow and ice. His statement contradicted reported claims by the exhibition hall owners that snow had been cleared according to regulations. The minister underlined that it is evident that costs had been reduced in all areas, dictated by the desire to gather huge profits with little costs involved.
