Danger Zone - (Haleigh Poutre)
National Review ^ | February 01, 2006 | Wesley J, Smith

Posted on 02/01/2006 7:29:10 AM PST by Ohioan from Florida

In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.

Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.

And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.

Close Call

Then came the unexpected:

Because the press doesn't want to let us know things like this, otherwise they can't sway public opinion to agree to things like death by dehydration. Sometimes I get a bit upset when I think of how much Terri could do, but it was not enough for the death doctors.

Ohioan from Florida, same thing with poor Haleigh. "We don't need no steenkin facts." This is a new article on how such cases get "fast tracked", not necessarily touching on the underlying desire to push another chance for the culture of death.

Despite these two contradictory opinions about her life support, state officials, attorneys for Haleigh, and a judge responsible for deciding her fate came to a quick consensus by October to remove all of Haleigh's life support.

Haleigh case rolled on despite dissent

It is scary the amount of power judges have and how they are often allowed to get away with the most flagrant breaking of laws.

On Terri:

June Maxam weighs in on the new PAC to counter the TerriPAC.

Greene, who claims that his group is a conservative political group, says he's founded a new political action committee called Terri's List in an effort to match the fundraising efforts of TerriPAC, the PAC created by Michael Schiavo. Greene has been described as a right-wing activist that launches political campaigns and fundraising appeals at the click of the "Send" key.

In a way it is scary to think how they would have continued and expanded their powers even more if the public like us hadn't started noticing and bringing it into the open.

"On this last point, it is interesting to observe that the records from Hospice show frequent medication administered for pain by staff."

As Mikey and the Spinsters tried to describe the "euphoria" enjoyed by Terri, supposedly feeling no pain and enjoying, to the pleasure of the ghouls, the fun of dying, the staff administered morphine in the last days.

An ancient story, isn't it? Normally, we are sympathetic to our sisters and brothers in the human family. The criminal must blame the victim, just as the brutish step-parents did with Haleigh.

It's depressingly easy to do, too.

But judges are elected. By the people. Answerable to the people. How the likes of Greer & Co have stayed in office is beyond all comprehension.

Dr. Hammesfahr reviewed Terri's medical records from prior years, and could put two and two together. In an interview, he pointed out that before Michael Schiavo received his check in the malpractice suit, Terri was "walking with parallel bars and assistance, having physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, speaking some words..."

After Schiavo got his money, he issued a "do not resuscitate" order for her and cut off all of Terri's rehab and therapy. Those horrible contractures she suffered should have been treated with range-of-motion therapy. Her urinary tract infection became chronic because it wasn't treated in the first place. Thirteen years of neglect and cruelty took their toll.

One cannot avoid the suspicion that Michael Schiavo spent all the years refighting the big argument they'd had the day before Terri's so-called "collapse." Or was he angry that she did not die when he punished her that night and choked her life away?

"I kept my promise" was surely his boast that he'd won the argument at last. Must have made him feel big to beat up on a helpless, disabled woman.

Yeah, after ten or eleven days of torture. He knew, he knew. He had watched her test positively for pain all over her body. He knew she would die in agony. Felos knew. Bushnell knew.

>> But judges are elected.

Some are, some aren't. Either way, once in power, they are subject to the Iron Law stated by Lord Acton: Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The DSS bureaucrats in this case are power-drunk. Imagine them ordering Haleigh's mother not to say a word about her own daughter's medical condition!

" Contributions totaled $10,392.12 and after disbursements of $3,827.06, cash on hand as of Dec. 31 was $6,565.06, according to [Brian] Schiavo's report. "

They could only siphon off pay themselves $3,827.06 minus expenses? The Schiavo boys will get tired of that soon enough.

What the Globe story reports is an epidemic of the liberal mental disease in Massachusetts. Just about everybody wanted to finish off a battered child, and only a few days after she was first brought to the hospital. Haleigh's own attending physician (a woman!) voted to snuff her. Her appointed lawyer (also female) and a guardian ad litem (male) voted to snuff her.

You'd think that students have to prove that they are certifiably sociopathic before they can be admitted to medical or law school.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the advertising for the PAC handled by a Schiavo family member?

They'd better straighten themselves out, and quick. The FEC isn't some circuit court in Florida.

The latest from Jeb Bush's office emailed to me through someone who wrote to Jeb. Apparently, Jeb Bush is still blind to the fact that Judge Greer ran an illegal campaign in 2004.

These are the exact words from Jeb Bush. Sorry bushbots, Jeb's part of the machine that would allow innocents to die. The money from Pinellas is just too sweet!

"The citizens of Pinellas County had their chance to vote for a new judge, but they did not. We must respect their choice."

The governor did nothing when Terri was being murdered except pretend to be doing something! I didn't ask for this latest quote - it was in my emails. His words coincide with the shredding of documents in Tallahassee too.

Wake up, people. Jeb changed.

When the Gov. of Florida overlooks a crooked campaign by Judge Greer, that's how Greer stayed in office.

Quote from Jeb: "The citizens of Pinellas County had their chance to vote for a new judge, but they did not. We must respect their choice."

60,000 voters voted against Greer but his opponent ran a campaign that was violation free. GREER CHEATED HIS SORRY BEHIND OFF AND THE PINELLAS GOP helped him. and the Sheriff, the Public Defender and the Prosecutor, and even Deborah Clarke, the Supervisor of Elections, the JQC and FEC looked the other way.

If you want corrupt, Pinellas County is where to look.
