In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.

Then came the unexpected:

Ahhh, nothing can get through a steel curtain. Solid logic and rational thought deflect.
Nevertheless, becoming 100% predictable, troll just cannot resist a little attack. Maybe we can make troll a mascot or something or teach troll to snap at other trolls.
Here is the thread:

BOSTON - Haleigh Poutre is receiving physical, occupational and speech therapy on a daily basis, according to the attending physician for the 11-year-old.
A spokesman for the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, where Haleigh is now receiving treatment, said he could not add to the statement that was released by the hospital yesterday and approved by the state Department of Social Services.
The statement also says that Haleigh "remains medically stable."(snip
Haleigh's biological mother now has permission to visit her daughter without first having to apply to the state for permission each time, Murphy said.

Who's to blame?
Many say the Department of Social Services. But the DSS head says they did "absolutely nothing wrong." Even Haleigh's doctors were fooled into believing her wounds were self-inflicted, he says.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates have created a new political action committee that will support lawmakers who backed Terri Schiavo and her family's efforts to prevent her euthanasia death. The group is also meant to counter a political action committee set up by Terri's former husband, who won a legal battle to take her life.

I somehow missed the culture war moment last month when it was reported that Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano, Texas, disconnected a dying, uninsured cancer patient, Tirhas Habtegiris, from the ventilator that was keeping her alive. The 27-year-old abdominal cancer patient was conscious and did not wish to be disconnected because she hoped that her mother would arrive from Africa for one last visit before she died. The hospital warned the patient and her family that it would keep her on the ventilator for just 10 more days. Ms. Habtegiris died 16 minutes after the ventilator was shut off on December 14, 2005.
It is a turnabout.

Self-inflicted - that's nonsense.
[EXPLETIVE DELETED] on the DSS, now and forevermore.
felos upon them
Bureaucrats never do anything wrong. Ever. Trust me. You do believe me, don't you? Please...!
Mainly what bureaucrats do is follow their own book of rules dictated by the legislature or congress that brought them into being. These rules have no relation to reality. It is not possible to frame fixed government rules in tune with changing human action and belief. The rules always slip further and further from being true or helpful. The result is that the very word "bureaucracy" is in the dictionary as slow, menacing, idiotic, wasteful, expensive, obstructionist, unresponsive and draped in red tape.
We must stop consigning children to a bureaucracy. They will be devoured.
That's NOT NICE.
Funny, but not nice :-)
Are you sure? Lots of little girls scald themselves in boiling water, burn themselves with cigarettes and beat their own heads in with a baseball bat. "Sugar and spice and hit your head twice."
Thanks for the ping, terribly sad! I pray that boy lives!
What a precious little baby. May the Lord be merciful to this child and his family.
She's getting better. Praise the Lord!
Haleigh's birthday and Junior's birthday are both Feb 24.
I unleashed on a CPS worker a couple of years ago. I asked her why she was doing my ex husband's dirty work instead of caring for children who actually were at risk. I cited my civil and constitutional rights, and she literally was speechless. That one, like the others were closed.
I found out later that my ex's new wife (we met once at my son's middle school graduation), used the standard language from the directives for mandated reporters, to accuse me of neglect. I could have her prosecuted, but right now she's the only person between my baby and her father.
Thou Shalt Not Kill is the law of the land and of God.
Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery is a sin and also a crime in Florida that Michael Schiavo committed during his sacred marriage to Terri (sarcasm tag).
Florida is the starvation state. Wake up to it.
With all due respect, the Pope's statements hold more weight than any freeper's.
Don't feel you have to reply to me. Just know that innocent people are being ordered to die. Natural death is losing ground. State Sponsored Murder is upon us.
South Dakota is going to teach the rest of the country a lesson.
"South Dakota criminalizes abortion"
I wish all the states would do this. That would send a message to the Supreme Court.
