In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.
Close Call
Then came the unexpected:

The clinic Coretta went to was shut down because the doc didn't have a license. good grief is right.
As I say many people are calling for the investigation of Ted Stith's departure. (even nurses)
Are we going to take care of our own at all or just have thousands more Terris and Teds?
Bono has a lot of nerve but then again the politicians think they're kewl for hanging out w/him.
And, think of it this way. The transplant business is a big money maker. In addition, the transplant must take rejection drugs the rest of their lives. What a big payoff for the drug companies.
There is no evidence that anyone did anything against Mrs. King's will, so why bring up yet another irrelevancy?
Gov. Mitt Romney may be a friend of Jeb's? In that case, no telling what will happen to Haleigh. I hope Romney is holding a REAL investigation.
I could read this thread if the weather bug alert didn't keep popping up. Think it's trying to tell me it's gonna be a brisk night. The weather bug chirps like a cricket and looks like a lady bug. weatherbug.com (cute weather site).
If that's the case, this is the Olympics and I got a TEN for presentation.
Why a homicide file opened back in 1990?
Everett Rice and Judge Greer go to baseball games together. Isn't that special? They talked about Terri at a Devil Rays game. Wasn't that another violation of Greer's judicial canons? Of course it was. It was even part of the court file but in this county, WHO CARES?
Terri's Wishes?

"Sent" as in referral. Do you know many patients are "sent" as in referral every day? Well, she was "sent" or "referred" to a quack.
No, that's not what I read into her posts, but thanks for your input.
I remember the last reunion I went to when I was 15. My great aunt and aunt and uncle shared a large lot, bordering on forest. It was full of tables, kids and grills. We had an old fashioned clambake. I would hope it was potluck ;-)
All I remember is that some of us cousins were going to swipe Aunt Agnes' homemade wine, but another cousin snitched on us, hahahahaha!

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune today, they didn't even have time to evaluate her. For anybody to go down there, they are already at deaths door after we get done with them.
Not to change subjects or spill breakfast cereal... I sent a get well card to Haleigh today, with a big, colorful, silly animal on the front. Hope she likes it. I have to take my leave here, but... First, I want to say thanks to whoever posted the hospital address.
That's a cute story. Ahh, the good ole days!
From the link that you provided:
"The veil of secrecy seems to be getting darker and darker as days go by," Murphy said this week, adding that DSS has not complied with her request for Haleigh's medical records and all files pertaining to Haleigh and Avrett.
Asked if Avrett intends to seek custody of Haleigh, Murphy declined comment, but did say "nothing is off the table at this point."

Maybe Haleigh's birth mother will seek custody of her. She was only 16 when Haleigh was born, which is probably why she gave her up, but now she is a mature woman.
If she doesn't decide to seek custody, I wonder if Social Services would allow anyone else to adopt her.
WIZARD: Oh, no, my dear -- I'm -- I'm a very good man. I'm just a very bad Wizard.
