Danger Zone - (Haleigh Poutre)
National Review ^ | February 01, 2006 | Wesley J, Smith

Posted on 02/01/2006 7:29:10 AM PST by Ohioan from Florida

In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.

Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.

And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.

Close Call

Then came the unexpected:

More re: paypal spoof: The emails are NOT from Paypal and it has a window to open to provide your password to get a refund. But, since it's a bogus email to begin with, there's no refund to be had. Don't login from an email. Only login to paypal from the site. I know this sounds like common sense but the bad guys are even using Paypal's email address as their email address so it can't be blocked. How'd they do that?

Sandy Bauers of Knight Ridder is drawing up the coming battle in book stores as if it were a major sporting event.

NBC has a lock on Michael Schiavo. A Dutton spokeswoman said he will visit "Dateline" on March 26 and the network's "Today" the following morning.

The Schindler family has hit a home run with ABC, which has them booked March 27 and 28 on "Good Morning America." A Warner Books publicist said they will also visit Fox's Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes on March 27.

The story carries the usual false statements, but does list most of the books either written or being written, omitting the one I keep at my side, Cheryl Ford's "Our Fight 4 Terri."

Who's on Frist?

Sun Sentinal comes out with a misleading line, Frist in error on Schiavo.

No surprise..not that I agree with all Frist...

Some of Frist's actual words....

Well, I say shame on those American people. Terri Schiavo's parents pleaded with all their heart and soul for help with their effort to let their daughter live. Charges were made that the GOP was using a family tragedy for political gain. You have to have evil and hateful thoughts to even think like that.

It should have no bearing on whether you agree with Michael Schiavo's decision or Terri's family's fight to save their daughter. Both John Paul II before his death and Pope Benedict XVI (who had an audience with the Schiavo family) stated that removing her feeding tube and water was an abomination and an affront to human dignity.

Frist in error

The Los Angeles Times ran a smear piece on orphanages, way back when. There were so many letters refuting this, that they had to publish them. An orphanage isn't exactly fun, but they were safe and functional, unlike many foster homes these days. Most of the orphanages were run by churches and charities.

I wish I was up to researching exactly why orphanages were closed down in favor of this present system.

Mmm hmmmm.

I don't drink cocktails but I could have been victimized the way ol' bentpotus was. Indeed, what was stolen from the brassy Bill Clinton is something nearly any man would fear to lose.

The state muscled them aside. As soon as government gets involved in welfarism, charities start to have money problems and fade away. They can't compete. People say to themselves, "If the government is going to do this, that takes care of it and we don't need to burden ourselves with this any more. We pay taxes for it."

For those with eyes to see and ears to hear, this is a POWERFUL reason never to let the state get involved in charity work (and that's what it is). Private charities almost always have the goal -- and a strong dollar incentive to remind them -- of getting their clients off charity and back on their feet. The state has impelling reasons to make the poor and the infirm dependent and keep them on welfare, which increases its own power and wealth. Private charities are fueled by love of God. State welfarism is driven by bureaucratic aggression.

And that is the morning's sermonette :-)

I believe those were the writer's words, reproaching Frist -- and justly. Have another look and see if I'm making sense.

“There’s nothing we can do about our daughter now, but what we can do is help save people in the future,” he said. “There’s a euthanasia agenda existing in this country. They’re viewing people not as a person but as a quality of life, and if it doesn’t meet their standards, they’ll let you die.”

No. They won't "let you die". They will make you die. You know the mentality of people who say it can't happen to them. I hope people start paying attention to this, because it can and will happen to them.

Bless the Schindlers for working through their pain by educating people.

That's what I thought. The government makes money off of everyone's misery. They even create misery for profit.

The State has deliberately dismantled everything that worked, just to push their own agenda. Not to mention ridding this country of anything to do with religion.

True, and true. But they are NOT in the business of ending misery! Note it well, world. If they did that, they'd be out of business and have to give back all that power and all those tax dollars. It never enters their mind to solve problems!

What they do, rather, is build in a misery test. You have to BE miserable -- and prove it -- to get the handouts. If you have too much money, they won't give you any and that makes you miserable again. If you don't have enough, they'll give you some, but just a little so you'll remain miserable.

Few escape the dependency trap. But unless they do, they cannot find that serenity in life that comes with pulling your own load, paying your own way, and not being beholden to anyone.

It doesn't surprise me that NBC is pushing Micky's book. I used to watch Law & Order but in recent years their misleading propaganda has become too blatant and I've just stopped watching them.

Yes, but the cop checking ids of the Schindlers at das Checkpoint told Suzanne "This isn't a game maam."

So, is it a game or not? The cop said it wasn't a game when Suzanne tried to see her sister who was being murdered. (I think Suzanne knew it wasn't a game. IT WAS A WELL PLANNED MURDER.

" A WELL PLANNED MURDER"

Sanctioned by the government officials who are paid by our tax dollars and that just stinks.
