In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.

They say, "No news is good news" and "Bad news travels fast." Let us hope so for Haleigh's sake. But I worry too. Perhaps we could get in touch with the birth mother's lawyer to try to get some information. I know there's a gag order on Haleigh's condition, but we ought at least to be able to find out if she is alive.
Have you noticed how the curtain call works? I have been doing some thought on it and noticed analogies.
Just call the name and the troll appears. The reactions come as reflex actions and not as considered responses much like a serpent strikes at something waving at its nose. No thought, just strike, hurling the venom supplied whatever it may be. It is always the same, just as in this recent case, no deviation, one hundred percent same tone strike.
I call this disorder IDD, Intention Deficit Disorder.
It is marked by the reptilian inability to express anything pleasant or friendly as those traits are bred out of even an understanding. The hapless "victim" can only respond with taught or predetermined venom, in a predicted sequence, mantras first, projection of the "victim's" own weaknesses, sarcasm, personal attack, and finally just babbling towards the end when the venom doesn't take. They are not even aware of the agenda of their masters, to disrupt, to chase away the innocent, to weaken support of things good.
And once their usefulness is over, their masters discard them like a snakeskin.

Sarah died in April. At first, Downs told police that the drowning had been an accident, and blamed her 5-year-old daughter. Downs later confessed to holding Sarah face down in the water as she bathed her. She said there was too much going on in her house and she just couldn’t take it anymore.
Why is it that people can understand how wrong it was for this mom to take her child's life, but cannot see that Michael was doing the same with Terri? Of course, Michael wouldn't confess to doing this, but it was obvious. Convicted killers on death row proclaim their innocence, even when there is a plethora of evidence (including DNA) to link them to the crime. Michael is no different. He just had a really good lawyer.

One of the things that really bugs me is how the press (and often the public) wants the information spoon fed to them, yet doesn't find an actual living human being (Terri, Haleigh, Ted Stith, and so on) worthy of assisted feeding of REAL food and water.
They try to condition us to believe that a few months before, it was not just ok but encouraged, to stab same baby with a scissors and use the term, "choice". A few months later, how could a post partum abortion be that bad in these same mindsets?
They want us all to accept the same cognitive dissonence they enjoy themselves. Just use a new vocabulary and viola! two diametric opposite concepts can bed together without working up a sweat.

Don't discount all the prayers going up for this child, just from this forum alone. Steel Curtain, are you here to discuss, or try and start flame wars, over an unfortunate little girl's future? The child breathes on her own, and with the proper therapy can recover to some degree. Maybe almost fully. It's God's call. He detests those who harm children and the innocent.
We have to continue to pray for Haleigh's safety and recovery. I'm starting to get a little concerned about lack of news, myself.
Thanks for the links. It is sad that someone is trying to make a buck off of Terri, but I'm not surprised. That is the kind of world we live in. Can this PAC be shut down?
Another nut kills her kid. The article didn't mention a husband or father. I can testify to the feeling of being overwhelmed, but thankfully I have enough self control not to harm my child. I hope she has to serve the whole 27 years.
Everything we do is by choice. To take a horrible example or two, a rapist strikes by choice, but we don't countenance "choice" for rapists. Ted Bundy killed by choice, but we didn't pat him on the head and say, "Keep it safe and rare!"
"Choice" is a weasel word that is substituted for the truthful word, "kill."
As a rule, people who put their argument in accurate, homely, everyday words are being truthful. People who resort to weasel words to make their case are selling something evil.

I think it's wonderful that she is recovering, and I pray for her complete healing. In response to your comment, I'm not starting flame wars. I merely pointed out that reaching 1,000 posts on a FR thread doesn't help anyone, least of all the child in question, although some posters here seemed to think it did, e.g., "Let's reach 1,000 for Haleigh!" and the like. Making a logical comment shouldn't cause one to be branded a troll or accused of starting a flame war, but it does. That doesn't say much for the quality of the discussion.

I object. Cranford would be better described as the nation's foremost misleading expert on PVS.
The Boston University seminar on Terri's murder is called "Where do we go from here?"

Greer will get a Pike Award at Boston U. for killing Terri on the anniversary of her death, March 31, 2006. Because of this new award, J. Greed won't be in Pinellas County. What a coward in addition to being a corrupt man in black. That's a good way to avoid the local media. Leave town.

John Paul's statement against murdering Terri is not just a paragraph. It's at least a five page statement.
You don't have to be Catholic to respect the Pope's words. You don't have to be anything special to not realize that Terri died from dehydration because special interest groups wanted Judge Greer to murder her.
