In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.
Close Call
Then came the unexpected:

Terri did get me to think about death and dying, and how I would never want to be forced to exit this earth the way Terri was made to go.
Wherever did Felos get the idea that Terri was dying? He completely made that one up out of thin air. Maybe it was when he was busy crashing his airplane just by thinking about it. There are those who frequent these forums who think Hammesfahr is a quack. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. However, if those same people can't see that Felos was the biggest nutcase out there, I must say, I feel a bit sorry for them. They should be pointed in the direction of one of his books, Litigation as Spiritual Practice.

" May she recover, and may God protect her from any further evil at the hands of those who are duty-bound to protect her.""
Amen to your prayer for Haleigh and another big amen to God help us all~!
I agree with your theory on the DSS's motives.
" Wherever did Felos get the idea that Terri was dying?"
Back in 2003, I read one his briefs. I have the thing saved some where, but will try and paraphase it. The loon stated Terri was terminal for the following reason. If her feeding tube was removed - she would die. I kid you not. I was outraged by his logic.
Even Felos would die if he were forbidden to have food or water. His insane form of double speak, was apparently accepted by the court. What does that say for the safety of anyone on this planet?
Apparently Felos and Greer weren't confident enough of Terri's non-ability to swallow, had she been allowed to do so. Case in point - Terri's brother and sister were banned from visiting her, during one of the previous times the court ordered the removal her feeding tube. The reason for the visitation ban - they brought in a jar of baby food to give to Terri, iirc.
psssst.. please ignore my grammer and spelling. :) :)

Another "sick people should just shut up and die" story:
British clinic is allowed to deny medicine
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1581935/posts
"When her local health service refused to treat her breast cancer with the drug Herceptin, 54-year-old Ann Marie Rogers sued. But on Wednesday, a High Court judge ruled against her.
In his decision the judge, David Bean, said that although he sympathized with Ms. Rogers's predicament, the health service in Swindon, where she lives, had been justified in withholding the drug.
The question for me is whether Swindon's policy is irrational and thus unlawful," Justice Bean wrote. "I cannot say it is."
The ruling has potentially serious implications for patients across the taxpayer-financed National Health Service.
Despite health officials' contention that decisions about treatment are based solely on clinical effectiveness, critics contend that with drugs growing ever more expensive, cost has become an increasingly important factor. They also say patients are at the mercy of the so-called postcode lottery, in which treatments are available in some postal zones but not others. "
Oh, I remember his reason for saying Terri was dying. The thing is...it wasn't even remotely true that she was dying. By his definition we are all terminal. Check me into a hospice please!! I'm terminal!!
I will gladly ignore the grammar and spelling errors. I shouldn't have pointed it out. It's not like I'm perfect or anything.
" By his definition we are all terminal. Check me into a hospice please!! I'm terminal!! "
Exactly!! And to think Felos got by with putting Terri in a hospice in 2000. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... makes me so mad.
You can correct me anytime on the errors. I could use the help. I'm probably the worlds worse on grammer and spelling. hehehehehe.. :)
For a king, he's one scary looking dude. :)
Um, that's a wampus cat.
The king's even further out there.
Nothing from Crist, Fla AG, in charge of Civil Rights, in charge of law enforcement. crickets chirping...
Remember how it was Terri's fault that she couldn't hold a spoon and essentially, that spoon was wrongly called medicine so they were emboldened to murder her?
We have been warning here since August of 2003 that Florida had serious problems. This isn't about Jeb or no Jeb, Florida has serious problems. Woo hoo, there's a budget surplus. That's well and good. Now let's cut the torture and violence against let's see, Ted Stith was a tourist starved in Port Charlotte; Anderson, 14 years old, was having problems during an exercise regimen and instead of letting him take it easy, they started beating away on him. Anderson was beaten while a hefty sized nurse watched big grown men do it for a half an hour, the tape I saw today showed them loading the boy who looked dead already onto a stretcher; Terri starved/dehydrated to death; and the others.
What do you bet that someone smuggled the surveillance tape out of the boot camp where Anderson was killed? That's the kind of thing state employees usually erase. There was your hero at that boot camp to get their hands on the tape and that hero didn't take it to Charlie Crist or DCF which was a wise move.
I haven't even met the lady :-)
Michael Geer reflects similarly this morning in American Thinker about the Cheney hunting accident. He observes: when the press griped that they didn't get the news of the hunting accident soon enough, what they revealed is that they didn't get the story at all. They only got it from handouts. They don't do news gathering and reporting any more. They are completely dependent on press conferences and press releases and manufactured "news" (such as reporting opinion polls and studies as news).

Meanwhile, another group is airing its topic of joys of bioethicking. One would almost suppose they are trying to implant new words into our vocabulary right out of George Orwell, to make the old concepts sound cuddly. Advance Directives sound so benign. PVS sounds so nice, as we notice, PVS cases could almost be consumed like vegetables, as we showed one vegetarian abortionist dining on his products.
