The entire world should publish mohammad toons in support of free speech.
If intolerant RoPers had not made such a big deal about it in the first place, it would have been a non-issue from the beginning.
The best answer is have the world awash in depictions of mohammad to show them we will not kowtow to aspects of their sharia law.
Let them learn to deal with it in the same way they have to deal with us eating pork, drinking alcohol and not making our women live inside tents.
Maybe some of these secular huminists have figured out that "The enemy(Islam) of my Enemy(Christians), really _isn't_ my friend" and perhaps even further that maybe Christians really aren't so bad afterall. It's not like you see Catholic Altar boys torching Citroen's every night.
Lots of folks here seem to be congratulating "France" or the "French". This is nothing of the kind. It is ONE NEWSPAPER.. one courageous and enlightened newspaper... but ONE NEWSPAPER ONLY.
It is not "France" the government, nor France the mass of citizenry. There may be a superstrong anti-clerical and secularist tone to French society (the head scarf ban), but there is an even stronger appeasement mentality there.
How soon before Monsieur Chirac offers his heartfelt apologies to Muslims for upsetting them with these cartoons? How soon before French Muslims start torching whole neighborhoods again? How soon before the white-flag French back down and make kissy-pooh with the Muslim blackmailers?
If the government and mainstream French media stand up and support the newspaper in question, and stand up for free speech and a free press in the face of Muslim threats, THEN I will start to be impressed.
I wonder if we will see these cartoons published in the New York Times?
I also wonder if pigs will fly!
The gauntlet is thrown. What a shocking development. I thought for sure that Europe would roll over.
Stay away from France, or we shall taunt you again!
France had best prepare for a boycott. Just read an article on the Danish milk industry (Arla) which states that a recovery will take years.
