No he didn't. He is trying to be "smart" but he tends to miss the forest for the trees, so to speak.

Exactly what I thought. He thought the speech was "conciliatory" and "non-confrontational" - guess he missed all the "zingers".

Fred Barnes seems to have made different observations from mine as well.
