It appears that the Democrat Party is closer to imploding than the Republican. How else to explain the ongoing attempts by Democrat Party Chairman Howard Dean to destroy Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid?
According to knowledgeable DNC sources, Dean about ten days ago was shown opposition research documents generated by the Republican National Committee more than three years ago, which laid out facts regarding Reid and his family's lobbying and ethical conflicts.
Dean, according to the sources, was fascinated by the details, and asked that his staff research and independently confirm everything on the documents. "Basically he oppo'd a member of his own party," says a DNC source loyal to Dean.
"Basically, we were looking at three- or four-page documents that made Jack Abramoff's lobbying work look like that of a rank amateur," says the DNC source. "Between the minority leader's past in Nevada and here in Washington, and the activities of his sons and son-in-law, there probably isn't anyone in this town with more conflicts. The Reid family is the symbol of what's wrong with Washington; it's their behavior that enabled the culture that spawned people like Abramoff."
Dean then went public over the weekend, saying that Democrats with an Abramoff problem would be in trouble, not only with voters, but with the Democrat Party. But why attack a senior member of his own party?
According to Democrat Party watchers and DNC staff, Dean has grown increasingly frustrated at how he is treated by the likes of Reid, Sen. Dick Durbin, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Rep. Rahm Emanuel, who leads the House Democrat candidate recruitment effort. "They treat him like a lackey, not as an equal," says another DNC employee. "Just last week, they were all badmouthing his fundraising activities, when clearly he's done a good job. What this comes down to a fight for the soul of our party, and if the chairman has to draw a long knife on a few of his colleagues, he's more than willing to do so."
Also should lay in a couple of cases of Lone Star and see if Howie can shoot out the Searchlight.

Dee-licious!
DEAN UNDER FIRE FROM PARTY DEMS; NEARLY ALL CASH SPENT
Both can't be true. I think what is happening is that Dean is fighting for his political life and is trying to change the subject. I don't care how it ends so long as maximum damage is done to the Democrats.
That's not what I hear.
The Dims put a nutcase in charge of the DNC.
Dean probably still fancies himself presidential material.
Dingy Harry is in big trouble having taken $60K from the Abramoff/Tribes sack of cash.
Does it get any more fun than this?? Dean should avoid any travel by small aircraft.
I don't know why the DNC crowd felt it was a good thing (for them) to bring Dean in from the cold. After Iowa, he was incredibly shrinking man. Now, he seems to be raising his profile at every turn. He has really big following at the DU nuthouse. Notwithstanding his promise not to, he must be considering a run in '08.
I think that is a lot of it too. But from the sound of it in this article, he wants to take down the leadership of the dems because of an egotistical grudge (they don't give him no respect). He looked at opposition research that had been generated by the Republicans three years ago.
I did seem strange the a couple of weeks ago on Today, Howie said Abramoff is a Repub problem and not a Dem problem, period. Then this weekend Howie does a 180 on FNC and says if any Dems took money, even indirectly, from Abramoff then they are in big trouble.
But whatever the reason, turmoil for them is good for us. A few bigwigs like Reid going down will checkmate plans for using the Abramoff scandal to their advantage or at least lessen the impact.
"Psssttt....Hey, Nancy....Howie says your face is tied up tighter than a country ham..."
Sure they can, just like I could have a zillion dollar income that I blow and end up broke. Dean might be the king of fundraisers and equally the king of spenders of the funds he raises. Not saying that that's the case, just a explanation of how it could be that he's both done a good job raising money and done an abysmal job of keeping it.
She Who Must Not Be Named is waiting in the dark like a large, venomous, pants-suited spider, biding her time while Dean and the Screamers take a bath in the off-year elections. She comes back as the voice of reason and moderation. They've been telegraphing this punch for two years and still people will fall for it.
I'm reminded of a Larry Forgy quote from a Kentucky governor's race back in the 90's:
"like a knife fight in a ditch"
great viewing I tell ya, I've already got my lawn chair and ice chest set up.
Yo Howard - you do know that Reid knows people in Las Vegas that can take care of problems like this don't you?
I think Dean loves it that the DNC has so little cash on hand. It would be hard for Dean to justify not giving that money out to the party establishment during the next election cycle. But, the 527's give Dean plausible deniability in denying certain candidates, i.e. those who don't tow the kook left line, funds. I always thought that Dean (a very angry person) took his demise during the last election too quietly. He must have known he was thrown under the bus by the Clintoon network and the party establishment. I somehow get the feeling he is now taking his revenge.
If I were one of their donors I would be having grave doubts about throwing more good money after bad.
