Coretta Scott King, who turned a life shattered by her husband's assassination into one devoted to enshrining his legacy of human rights and equality, has died. She was 78.

Flags at the King Center were lowered to half-staff Tuesday morning.

"We appreciate the prayers and condolences from people across the country," the King family said in a statement. The family said she died overnight, but did not say where she died. She suffered a serious stroke and heart attack in 2005.

I heard this on the radio a bit ago. I don't see where the President declared this though. No disrespect meant, just a pet peeve of mine. I am the facility guy at work and people want the flag lowered for the dangest reasons. And no, we are not a gov facility.

I think that was probably a family decision as a gesture the King family and the King Center mourn her passing.

It's George W Bush's fault.

Isn't the King Center a private facility? She was an important part of that Center, so their lowering of the flags doesn't surprise me in the least.

God rest her soul.

It is and it isn't. Like I said, just a peeve of mine as it is not proper protocol unless it is a private (corp) flag. I wish her and her family no ill will.
