The announcement that Rev. Jerry Vines is stepping down from the helm of First Baptist Church has elicited mixed reactions within the American Muslim community.
While recognizing the positive contributions made by Rev. Vines in his stewardship of the congregation and as a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, Muslims remain disappointed that a prominent religious leader used divisive rhetoric at a time when the world needed spiritual healers.
In 2002, Rev. Vines sparked a national controversy when he defamed the Prophet Muhammad by calling him a "demon-possessed pedophile."
Besides the fact that his comments were offensive to Muslims, Rev. Vines lacked basic understanding of Islam and Muslims.

When Muhammad began having his "revelations" he himself was certain that he was demon possessed.
It was only at the urging of others that he came to believe that the evil he was spouting, which always profited him, and rule number one was that it was never to be challenged under penalty of death, was in fact from god.
The "profit" had it right the first time.
Hmmm. Devisive rhetoric? Moses? Do you think the Jews thought he was using "devisive rhetoric" when he came down from the mount and saw the golden calf? Or how about John the Baptist in calling Herod an adulterer? Paul, John, Peter, and James in describing the charachter of a false prophet, teacher, or apostate?
Hmmm. Devisive rhetoric. We have forgotten how to call sin, sin. No one said it better than Jesus himself to the Pharisees: Mt 23:33 "You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?
Seems a bit devisive to me-----but JUSTIFIED.
Actually I think most of them had headed left before the last election, and Kerry got the majority of their votes.
They're just biding their time until they have enough numbers to elect one of their own, though. They plan on turning our own system against us, just as they're currently doing with the court system.
Somehow, I think he understands all too well.

So do I. I am loving Denmark right now.
Thank you. Bears repeating. Hope FReepers are paying attention.
I am sorely disappointed to hear this. I've listened to Dr. Vines for many years now (that's really saying something as I'm a Lutheran).
He's the pastor of the largest Baptist church in Jax, and by all accounts a really upstanding guy. His sermons on "spiritual warfare" were not to be missed and probably are still available through First Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
CAIR can kiss my hairy white ass...
They should STFU, until Mosques are firebombed, Muslim women gang raped, and heads severed on video tape by Americans in America....
I would advise them to thank Allah, that they are HERE and not THERE -where comments such as they are making here could get their asses killed.
Semper Fi
Actually, I've heard that the reason why they voted for Bush was because Gore picked a Jew (Lieberman) to be his VP candidate.
Why did he hold back? Where's murderer, blackmailer, thief, drug addict, etc.,etc.
And, where's the defamation? Isn't it all there in the Koran & Hadidth?

sCAIR got Michael Graham taken off of WMAL. I am not privy to what they are doing, but perhaps we should find out and make the same kind of group to take libs off the air?
Thanks for the ping ... Seems like CAIR is somewhat muted in their response, relatively speaking (i.e., They are usually even worse).

Thanks for the Jesus Saving the Baptist\ The Baptist saving the South, The South saving the Nation: Ping. ;o)
That is even better than the other ping I like!
Frankly...I don't care what CAIR thinks.
That 'muslim moon', with Mars cradled inside the crescent moon, I'm starting to believe, is their attack time.
