NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities shut down all eight lanes of Interstate 24/40 in downtown Nashville Monday afternoon after stopping a sport utility vehicle and finding firearms inside.

Handguns, a sawed off shotgun, an AK-47 rifle and body armor were found in the vehicle after it was stopped for failing to signal a lane change.

The SUV had been part of an on-going investigation believed to be involved in selling weapons at area housing units. The vehicle had been spotted earlier in the day at the J.C. Napier housing projects.

Hope I never get stopped on my way to the shooting range. I would make a pretty good headline.

1st Police Officer: "They couldn't have had a sawed off shotgun."

2nd Officer: "Why not?"

1st Officer: "Because that's illegal."

stopped for failing to signal a lane change.

LEO's were obviously tailing the SUV looking for any legal reason to stop it.

In Nashville, if they stopped everybody for "failing to signal a lane change", the interstates would look just like they did this afternoon. Glad they got them though !!!

Happened to me once. I had about 12 different weapons including an SKS and handguns from 22 up to 44 Mag. Nothing cam of it. I suppose a truck load of guns is more common here in Arkansas than in other places.

"Failure to signal a lane change."

That's one of the favorite excuses to stop a suspect.
