(AP) WASHINGTON President George W. Bush will appear in Minnesota Thursday to tout initiatives in his State of the Union speech, a White House spokesman confirmed Monday.
The spokesman, Allen Abney, said that Bush will be speaking at an event in Maplewood, Minn. He did not have the time or other details of the event.
Bush plans to discuss health care, energy and education initiatives in Tuesday's speech.
Bush will travel to Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday, and New Mexico and Texas on Friday.
why wouldn't a Freeper not get a personal invite?
Aldrich arena maybe?
Maybe Mapelwood Mall? (I grew up in nearby Stillwater).
That's right where I live too. He seems to come to MN a lot. Big hopes for Nov, you think?
That would be my guess, too.
Possibly a business site? 3M? Or is the 3M campus not considered Maplewood?

My guess is a local school, St. Johns Hospital, 3M...??
Yes, Maplewood is 3M territory.
Aldrich is a definite possibility. It's awfully large, though, and I don't think there's time to secure it properly.
I'm thinking a smaller venue, and one more easily controlled. Could even be the Maplewood Community Center. They have a nice small theater. Not 3M, though, I don't think.
"My guess is a local school, St. Johns Hospital, 3M...??"
I hope not St. Johns. My Father-in-law is there, recovering from a mild stroke. I'm not sure they have an auditorium large enough for a Presidential speech.
It was the only Maplewood hospital I could think of.
Youre prob right on about it not being a site.
Ill mention your F-I-L in my prayers.
Is there a local chamber of commerce meeting goin on? Thats a possibility too.
They sure are secretive about the location. Maybe theyll leak it tomorrow.
It must obviously be an invited guest list only or maybe its a trapped audience that doesnt know he's going to be there. Sheesh...I'm starting to see black helicopters here....time to take a break.
It'll be an invited guest thing, I'm certain. I'm not active in the local GOP organization, so I won't be on the list. The local GOP can get as many people as are needed to fill whatever venue is selected. Thursday's plenty of time.
I doubt they'll announce the venue publicly until Wednesday, if then. Security is a real issue.
I'll be doing my grocery shopping on Wednesday, I think. The roads will be a disaster most of the day Thursday. Maplewood is a small community, but very long, and there are really only two main roads from I-94. Both will be closed, along with much of the rest of the community's streets.
"Ill mention your F-I-L in my prayers.
"
He'll appreciate that, I'm sure. He's doing OK, and will be leaving the hospital for convalescent care, probably on Wednesday. Not on Thursday, though, I hope.
I just talked to somebody who's big in MN politics and she said Bush is coming to Maple Grove, not Maplewood.

Could be. Someone's got it wrong, I guess. We'll see.
Frankly, I have stuff to do on Thursday, so Maple Grove would work out better for me. A Presidential appearance in a small community like Maplewood will pretty much end all business being done in town that day. Security precautions are amazing when the President comes to town. Best to stay in your house until he leaves.
Just heard on GL...
3M in Maplewood it is.
3M. OK. Then I can go ahead and plan my grocery shopping.
