Is there a new member of the Bush family?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush says Bill Clinton has become so close to his father that the Democratic former president is like a member of the family.

Former President George Bush has worked with Clinton to raise money for victims of the Asian tsunami and the hurricane disaster along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Asked about his father and Clinton, Bush quipped, "Yes, he and my new brother."

"That's a good relationship. It's a fun relationship to watch," Bush said in an interview with CBS News broadcast on Sunday.

While attending Pope John Paul's funeral, Bush said, "It was fun to see the interplay between dad and Clinton. One of these days, I'll be a member of the ex-president's club. ... I'll be looking for something to do."

He said ex-presidents share rare experiences that others cannot understand. "And so I can understand why ex-presidents are able to put aside old differences," he said.

Bush said he checked in with Clinton occasionally.

"And you know, he says things that makes it obvious -- that makes it obvious to me that we're kind of, you know, on the same wavelength about the job of the presidency. Makes sense, after all, there's this kind of commonality," he said.

Bush jokingly referred to speculation that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former president's wife, will seek the Democratic nomination for the presidency. He had earlier referred to the former first lady as "formidable."

"Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton," he said, referring to how Bill Clinton had followed his father, and Hillary Clinton could follow him.

Actually, I don't recall Ronald Reagan ever golfing (he'd much rather ride a horse / spend time at Rancho del Cielo in Santa Barbara (I will check next if he ever had Carter there). So, I think I have confirmed this through Google:

I've never regretted having voted for Ross Perot and Admiral Stockdale in 1992; after having read this, and the article about Bush, Sr. giving Teddy Kennedy a citizenship award from an organization he (Bush) heads and reading John Podhoretz book about how Bush 41 said he didn't want "any of that right-wing stuff" around the White HOuse after his defeat, I'm convinced that I (and the other 20 percent of the voters) did the right thing.

Conspiracy theorists suggest that the Bush family and the Clinton family are partners in crime. The Wall Street Journal briefly pursued their connection through an airport in Mena, AR.

"Clintoon will suck up to anything and anybody ...

Part of what makes him a dangerous sociopath is his ability to charm those he seeks to control.

Yeah. Here's the parts I saved. Like I said, its an embarrassment. Reality bites. I don't think anyone in 2000-2001 would have predicted that GWBush would be calling Bill Clinton, his brother. I can't believe anyone around FR would be defending PresBush for his remarks yesterday. It's not a huge issue, but it doesn't sit well with most Republicans.

From: Face the Nation (CBS News) - Sunday, January 29, 2006 BURRELLE'S INFORMATION SERVICES

SCHIEFFER: Mm-hmm. But he's with his friend, Bill Clinton.

Pres. BUSH: Yeah, he and my new brother.

SCHIEFFER: New brother.

Pres. BUSH: Yeah, he--and it's a good relationship. It's a fun relationship to watch. You know, I had President Clinton and dad and Laura and Condi and I flew out to the Holy Father's funeral and it was fun to see the interplay between dad and Clinton.

SCHIEFFER: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Pres. BUSH: One of these days I'll be a member of the ex-presidents club.

SCHIEFFER: Sure.

Pres. BUSH: I'll be looking for something to do.

SCHIEFFER: You know, if Senator Clinton becomes president...

Pres. BUSH: Yeah. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.

SCHIEFFER: ...we'll see the day when the two of you will be as close as ex-presidents.

Pres. BUSH: Yeah. I think there's--I do think there's--I think that, you know, when your time's up, that there's a kind of a kinship that you develop.

SCHIEFFER: Yeah.

Pres. BUSH: You know, there's a lot of shared experiences and so I can understand why ex-presidents are able to put aside old differences.

SCHIEFFER: Mm-hmm. I can, too.

Pres. BUSH: Really.

SCHIEFFER: If you hadn't done the job, how can you really understand.

Pres. BUSH: That's exactly right. I've talked--I check in with Bill Clinton occasionally, just to see how he's doing.

SCHIEFFER: Mm-hmm.

Pres. BUSH: And you know, he says things that makes it obvious to me that we're kind of, you know, on the same wavelength with the job of the presidency.

SCHIEFFER: Mm-hmm.

Pres. BUSH: It makes sense, after all.

SCHIEFFER: Yeah, yeah.

Pres. BUSH: This is kind of commonality.

Well, first of all, if Clinton is a Christian, he is indeed Bush's brother in Christ, whether you like that or not. Second, I took it more as a joke - you know, kinda like the elder Bush is "adopting" Clinton and that makes them half-brothers at least. Perhaps something else beside the "brother" remark is setting you off?

" Having these type of articles is an attempt to legitimize her as a politician by association."

Well does Bush 41 have to help?

So which is it? Was Bush joking or are they Christian brothers? LOL Its a free country, you can believe what you like.

Whether Bush was making a joke or not, the fact remains, Clinton has been treated with more respect by the Bushies then he deserves. You have no problem with that. Gotcha.

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, Bush (Jeb), Clinton (Chelsea).

Yup, quite the joke, isn't it?

I don't get to decide that, but now Christians cannot joke amongst themselves - I'd better tell my small group immediately - the fact also remains that Carter was treated with more respect by Reagan then he deserved. You have no problem with that, but you do with this. Gotcha.

I am certainly not an insider, but my guess is this is classic Bush family politics. In 1978 then Democratic State Senator Kent Hance beat George W Bush in a congressional race, Hances key was he labeled George W. as a spoiled Ivy league, prep school rich kid from Connecticut, they actually blew up a copy of George W's birth certificate and passed it around. It worked Hance won W lost, but instead of brooding about it George W. learned from it and embraced Hance the politician to where in 2000 Hance contributed to Bush's run, and no one has been able to question Bush being from Texas since. Two years later when George H.W. Bush ran for President and lost to Ronald Reagan he did not brood either, he studied the Reagan did and ran a decent Reagan style effort in 1988, of course in my opinion there has only been one Ronald Reagan and neither George Bush can match min, but that is not the point, the point is it got George HW learned from his mistakes. In 1992 Bill Clinton beat George HW, there are those who will say Ross Perot did it, but actually like him or nor, most here are not, but Bill Clinton connected with many voters while George HW, seemed rather aloof with them, right or wrong many voters can be charmed. Once again the family did not brood they learned from Bill Clinton who seems all to anxious to teach them and George W. does not suffer aloofness either. This is just my opinion but this family does have a habit of embracing those who beat them in order to learn from their mistakes.

Christians, Jews, Muslims can joke all they want. I couldn't care less. So don't put words in my mouth.

You ignore the facts of history. Reagan gave Carter the respect he deserved. Up until Bush43 became POTUS, Jimmah use to keep his big mouth shut and just go about his business in life. After Bush43 was elected Jimmah broke the unspoken rule for ex-presidents. Don't criticize other President's, especially a sitting POTUS. Clinton has joined Carter in attacking Bush43. You think that's okay. Gotcha bucko!

I am not putting words in your mouth - you typed the following: "So which is it? Was Bush joking or are they Christian brothers? LOL" Also, Carter did indeed criticize Reagan while he was still President - I will be back with that right after I find out whether Reagan ever had Carter up to Rancho del Cielo.
