SNOWE DECRIES FILIBUSTER THREAT AGAINST ALITO
Contact: Antonia Ferrier (202) 224-5344 Monday, January 30, 2006
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) today decried threats from prominent Senate Democrats to mount a filibuster preventing a vote on the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. Snowe issued the following statement:
While I have not made any decision yet on an up-or-down vote on the nominee itself, I find it regrettable that there are those who are trying to resurrect a filibuster even as there is clearly nothing in the record that constitutes extraordinary circumstances. This unfortunate effort only serves to further politicize and polarize this process when this should be a time of careful deliberation based on the facts of the nominees record and testimony.

Just read this a.m. that "GOP Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island also announced that he would vote against Alito's confirmation. Chafee, a self-described 'pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-Bill of Rights Republican,' is the only member of the Republican Party so far to announce that he will vote against the conservative judge."

It seems like the "gang of 14" agreement is holding. I have my doubts that Frist & co. would have the b##ls to activate the nuclear option. It will be a great victory for American citizens when Alito is sworn in.

I think he might. Frist looked pissed when he was being savaged by Timmy Russert on yesterdays MTP. He is leaving the senate. He needs to play to the conservative base, and what better way than nuke the pricks.

"Yesterday, Mr. Leahy was not claiming that anything extraordinary had come up. The only explanation he has offered is that Democrats didn't want to cut short their Martin Luther King Day holiday.
But, according to his office,
the November agreement was not binding anyway because it wasn't in writing."

This unfortunate effort only serves to further politicize and polarize this process when this should be a time of careful deliberation based on the facts of the nominees record and testimony. When the Democrats start ticking off Olympia Snowe, you know they've gone off the deep end.

It will be a great victory for American citizens when Alito is sworn in. I think the Dems are just posturing to warn Bush not to nominate anyone more conservative than Alito in the future or they will filibuster for real. This is a warning shot from them.

Snowe is giving cover for her friends across the isle.
She is giving them the ability to say the fake filibuster is real.
this effort by snowe deserves contempt and scorn. If she was sincere she would have just shut up.
I bet her handlers are just playing her.
