Chafee will vote against Alito
PROVIDENCE -- U.S. Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee announced this morning that he will vote against the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. to the Supreme Court.
In a statement issued at a press conference this morning, the Rhode Island Republican said he was "greatly concerned" about some of Alito's philosophies.
Chafee described himself as a "pro-choice, pro-Bill of Rights" Republican, in explaining his decision against Alito.

pro-Bill of Rights"
B!S! Frankly the party should throw all of it's assets behind his challenger now. There is NO reason for any Republican to ever support Chaffee

"The new Jim Jeffords"
And whatever has happened to the dishonorable Mr Jeffords? Has he become a rising star in his new party? He seems to have faded away.

"W. needs to take this jackass to the woodshed."
What part of the Executive and the Legislative being different branches of the Govt do some Freepers find so hard to understand? W cannot do a THING to him. The people who CAN make life miserable for him is the Senate Republican Leaders. Unfortunately they are all RINOS.

Just a little slack for a weak man here. There is a good chance he would vote for Alito in do or die vote but is just going with his constituents. He is just a frog hair better than a Demon Rat. We need to get him replaced with a real conservative but he is the loser we have to deal with now.

His father was a worthless traitor, too.

Indeed, this is the critical question.
If Chafee does not support cloture, then the retaliation should be swift and terrible: no discretionary money into Rhode Island for any reason, strip him of all his committee assignments, have the RNC and the RNSC endorse his primary opponent and fund the opponent. And simply freeze him out of the caucus.

I agree with you if he votes correctly on cloture. If he votes to sustain a filibuster, he should be read out of the caucus and the party.

They cannot. The Legislature is a CO EQUAL branch of Govt. The people who CAN punish him are the Senate Leaders. The Executive cannot do a thing. The President could enthusiastically support and fundraise for a primary opponent.
He won't, but he could.
