He stresses that the theory of Intelligent Design diminishes God into “an engineer who designs systems rather than a lover.”

I don't see why He can't be considered both. After all, He loved the universe and us into existence.

The Church has been roots in rational thought. Catholic mysticisim and meditation are also powerful and as deep as any eastern tradition.

The Church has been around a long time, and has uh, "evolved" many advanced ways of approaching issues that have currently occupy our culture.

THE VATICAN IS READING MY POSTS!!!!!!!

"...if you believe in Creation, you cannot possibly believe in ID because they are absolutely incompatible; ID denies the God of the Bible by suggesting that the source of Creation is an unknown force."

"If you believe in Biblical Creationism, then you KNOW that force; it isn't unknown." -- Source

"I think it desingenous and disrespectful to try and "slide God in under the door" disguised as merely an intelligent creator..." -- Source

“Religious believers must move away from the notion of a dictator God, a Newtonian God who made the universe as a watch that ticks along regularly.”

Well, isn't that special?

Intelligent Design reduces and belittles God’s power and might, according to the director of the Vatican Observatory.

He stresses that the theory of Intelligent Design diminishes God into “an engineer who designs systems rather than a lover.”

Ha ha ha. Man, they've gone over the edge. And the writer of the article! God as an engineer who designs a lover?

My view is that the theory of evolution is probably true. Evolution is simply the observed actions of nature which have their origin in the divine first cause. In other words God has set in motion a creation that can be observed by man as an evolutionary process. This process is subject to the laws of nature which have been created by God i.e. intelligent design. I am Catholic and I think this priest has confused the issue. Since when does a priest outrank a Cardinal.Catholicism has always accepted evolution but it maintains that God is the force behind creation. So there is no conflict between the belief that God created the universe and the evolution theory. Religious fundamentalism i.e. the literal belief in the Book of Genesis is ridiculous. The earth was not created in six days and the sequence of creation is not correct.
