I skipped out on the whole Alito confirmation hearings, after what happened with Meirs I was just sick of the whole issue but what is so bad about Alito that the Socialists in the Senate feel they should filibuster? Is it just because he would tilt the court a little more to the right and they cannot have that because then their pet issues go right out the proverbial window?

These little pet issues are NOT constitutional. Alito threatens them 'cause he will strictly interpret our constitution. If he does, those pet issues are history.

My thoughts, also.

The guy is "normal" - not right or left, but really smart and good at what he does for us, with us meaning all Americans. Now, I'm on the right and PAY BACK WOULD BE A BITCH. Now, I'm not saying that that would be the right thing to do, but it would be aligned with human behavior as I know it.

As far as the abortion issue - would it not be simply wonderful to kick it back to the states, so that it would be eliminated as a national issue? Of course, this whole thing leads back to money - political contributions.
