It's time to give credit where credit is due...
First kudos go to President Bush. I've been very hard on him and his administration (deservedly so) but the Alito nomination was brilliant. He had the courage to recognize that he had blundered badly with the Myers nomination and put forward a true conservative thinker.
Second award goes to, gulp - it hurts to say, Arlen Spector. I thought he was being outmaneuvered every step of the way by the Democrats. But look at what has happened - Samual Alito will be sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice hours before the State of the Union Address. It will be a truly awesome spectacle to see him seated with the other justices in the front-row! The dems will have to suffer through the evening knowing they have been beaten badly.
This very well could be dumb luck but maybe this whole nomination has been managed much more shrewdly then any of us suspected.
Third award goes to Bill Frist. Who would've thought he could keep the Republicans on message and unified through the whole process. You did not see Hagel or McCain pulling their usual act. This was a stunning accomplishment.
This is the reason I have supported the Republican Party and they have delivered - a job well done!!!

Don't forget that as bad as it sounded, the gang of 14 has ruled the day for the Nominees!
