Amazing how gutless Republicans are of a fight. How ashamed Ronald Reagan must be to see what sorry straights his party has fallen too.

What crap. Ronald Reagan gave up O'Connor, Kennedy, and Scalia. GWB, assuming Alito gets in, will have Roberts and Alito. I daresay even Reagan would have preferred GWB's nominees over his own.

And, before you say that RWR had a minority Senate in 1987 and GWB was pressured over Miers, let's recognize that the stronger Republican Senate in 2005-6 AND the pressure brought to bear is evidence of a STRONGER GOP, not a weaker one.

2006 vs. 1987. Not even close. The 'Rats are going DOWN!!!

President Nixon nominated a conservative southern jurist, Clement Haynesworth, to the Supreme Court. His nomination was defeated in the Democrat-controlled Senate, with the help of liberal Republicans, by a vote of 55 - 45 on the grounds that as a judge he had made rulings favoring segregation and decisions in which he had a financial interest.

Nixon then nominated G. Harold Carswell, who fared even worse and was rejected.

Nixon then nominated Harry Blackmun, a lifelong Republican who gave us Roe v. Wade.
