Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

Agreed.

From now on, every time I use the word filibuster, regarding the Dem's attempt to stop the process, I am going to call it a "fake filibuster".

I think there is a good possibility he will

I don't care about that so much because there are enough votes for him to be on the bench

but he best not side with the dems on the bogus filibuster

debate time....half of which belongs to the Dems

Not fair.

55% should belong to the Pubs, 44% to the Rats, and 1% to JumpinJim.

Chaffee is a thorn in our sides but better to have him in the Senate than any democrat. This proves the point. He WILL vote for cloture. That alone, the fact that we don't have another Democrat able to filibuster is enough to let him get reelected. We can't do any better in Rhode Island.

LOL. And I liked Limbaugh's new nickname for Kerry: John Filibuster Kerry.

I think the lemming really should be the Dems' mascot. Far more fitting than the donk.

I love it when they huddle in their basements crying to each other. God help me, but I do love it so. (paraphrasing General Patton here)

Then you expect there wil be a UC request to vote tomorrow?

Do I expect cloture to be vitiated? "Not voted but agreed/deemed passed"?

I'm not sure. That's the drama. I won't be surprised if Reid and Frist announce agreement to vitiate the cloture motion, and the vote on Alito goes forward as scheduled at 11:00 am tomorrow.

Is it really so wrong to cruise around DU and hear from the Daily Kosmunists on days like this...

You have a stronger stomach than I - and I read the Boston Globe every day, which requires increasing levels of intestinal fortitude. I'm curious as to whether the Democrat Dirt Diggers have any more mud in their arsenal, and whether they will attempt once last group fling against the wall today. We shall see.

Gotta disagree..he didn't vote for the president..if he votes against the SCOTUS nominee.why keep him? He just gives more power to Snowe, Collins and the other RINOS..

Nearly as funny as Rep. "3-watt" Conyers (Dummy-MI) and his bogus hearings in the basement of the Rayburn Building.

No leader's time?

Mr. COCHRAN. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that when the Senate completes its business today, it adjourn until 10 a.m. on Monday, January 30; I further ask that following the prayer and pledge, the morning hour be deemed expired, the Journal of proceedings be approved to date, the time for the two leaders be reserved, and the Senate proceed to executive session and resume consideration of the nomination of Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court; I further ask that the time from 10 to 11 be under the control of the Democrats, from 11 to 12 be under the control of the Republicans, and that debate continue to alternate on an hourly basis until 4 p.m.; I further ask unanimous consent that at 4 p.m., the Democratic leader or his designee be recognized for up to 15 minutes and that the final 15 minutes before the cloture vote be under the control of the majority leader or his designee.

Lincoln Chaffee (R-RI) - Against Filibuster - Noncommital on the nominee.
Chafee has long signaled his worry that a filibuster against Alito would gridlock the Senate. Hourahan reaffirmed Thursday that the senator would join fellow Republicans in voting to shut off debate.

Linc is stuck..If he votes against Alito, he'll lose the primary..if he votes for him..he'll lose the general election..either way..we'll be rid of him thank goodness..

The day Linc loses in the primary will be a day I celebrate another victory for our side.

I agree with you in principle. If he were from OH or WV, or even PA I would say to kick him to the curb. But Rhode Island? We're not going to do better. I wish it weren't the case, but it is.

IMO the best showings so far have been Hatch and Kyl (who in addition to brains and eloquence has a superb voice). Hope to hear more, even more of the same, from them.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Dems surrender early today. They are clearly trying to thwart the will of the people. One of the best lines out of all this is the simple one: Elections have consequences.

They're not all going to filibuster. Several Red-State Democrats already said they won't. The people who flip-flopped (Biden, Clinton, Feinstein) are either afraid of the kook base or are running for president and they don't want to let John Kerry get all the supposed glory from the moonbats.
