Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...
He's a jerk. I want to know the exact reason he didn't vote. Ensign had a legit reason he wasn't there, so was Hagel being nice to Dung-boy Harkin who wasn;t present? I don't understand this at all.
Expressed beautifully!
NOticed that some of the early spring flowers were beginning to peak though the dirt, maybe a couple of weeks early. But nothing blooming. I'll be planting early peas this week sometime.
If you give in to temptation, be sure to tell them you want sourdough French Toast. Let me know - I won't tell a soul - :o)
I am really surprised by the early bloomings. Way too soon. I don't get it.
Thanks for that. I was keeping track for my own benefit, and it just happened that the form facilitates fact checking by others.
I notice C-SPAN2 has changed their Alito-count ... Bayh and Dorgan on the record, somewhere, as against ...
Aye = 57 Nay = 40
1 GOP yet to commit: 2 DEM yet to commit:
Snowe Landrieu
Rockefeller
DEM Crossover = 4 GOP Crossover = 1
Nelson (NE) Chaffee (RI)
Johnson (SD)
Byrd (WV)
Conrad (ND)
That's a deal! Sour dough it'll be!
decisions decisions - which picture do I want to throw darts at? The Orange-Face would make a good target. :o)
As it was explained earlier.....They are not allowed to miss without being excused. However, if an important/close vote is being held, they may find a member (usually of the opposite party) who will cancel out their vote and both not show/vote as a courtesy and both be excused. The posted gave the name of the practice. Learn something every day on FR.
Since the Senate seems to have so few courtesies left, I guess we should be happy that this one is still intact.
Ah yes. That's the answer.
Thank you very much for my new tagline.
Thank you for the explanation. I wonder what Cboldt thinks?
Make a wonderful french toast...using sour dough bread and adding the juice and zest of an orange to the milk and egg mixture.....Serve it with some local sorgum and/or Indiana maple syrup or my homemade apple butter.....YUM!
THink I'll fix some for breakfast!
they called it vote pairing
Thanks Rob....Onyx it's called "vote pairing".
Man, Landrieu & Snowe are going down to the wire! I need both of them to vote for Alito to hit my prediction of 59-41. I'm not sure what the deal is with Rockefeller. He's ultra-liberal and I can't believe he'd vote for Alito.
I do not want to think of a longer hotter summer - we are running a/c now and then already.
Flowers blooming in Montana? FGS, don't tell Gore!
Vote pairing - I would read Riddick for the explanation ;-)
A Senator announcing a pair is not excused from the rule as to assigning reasons for not voting, but the fact of being paired excuses from voting when the question is raised. Pairing can be done for votes of 2/3rds, where the pairing is tw in the affirmative to one in the negative (e.g., for treaties).
Pairing has no play in a cloture vote, as cloture requires a certain number of votes to pass; not a "majority" or "2/3rds" of votes cast, but (today), 60 votes must be cast in favor - and in order to cast a vote, a Senator must be at his desk.
