57 definite votes for Alito, 35 definite against. We could also get Snowe, Dorgan, and Landrieu. I doubt if any of the other uncommitted Rats will vote for Alito (Cantwell, Bayh, Rockefeller, Lautenburg, Menendez) There are more than 60 votes to cut off the filibuster.

"That's not the guts of the gang's agreement. The gang's agreement wasn't on how to vote on a nominee - it was to get to the vote. IOW, they agreed not to abuse cloture."
That's what they said, but not what they meant.
Liarman will use the "extreme" cases to vote against Alito, even if he didn't say so.

Now they're not even talking about Alito anymore?
Did they do a poll on what was important to Americans and decided they'd go with job outsourcing? *scratches head*

Both sides instead of just one, yes. The Pinkos did get a permit halfway down the block, but the traffic's moving too fast for anyone to read their signs. That's fine - I just didn't like them holding up signs calling our soldiers murderers right on the corner where the troops would see them.

Re: Senator John Ensign car accident
I think this clinches no filibuster. How crappy are the dems going to look in the news if they win on cloture by one vote, just because of a Senator's car accident. Media will make them look like opportunistic snakes.
Very poor form. Then again, they don't care how bad they look.

The two NJ Dems were supposed to have had a press conference by now to announce their intentions. How will they vote on cloture & on the nomination? Anyone know?

Jimmy Carter: At Least Hamas Is Not Corrupt

"When asked by the media for his thoughts on the Hamas triumph in the Palestinian parliamentary elections, former President Jimmy Carter replied that while they have a terrorist past, at least they're not corrupt."

Once again, the devil's in the details, er, permit. Ya'll take care -- and thanks for reminding those at Walter Reed that we appreciate them.

Liarman will use the "extreme" cases to vote against Alito, even if he didn't say so. He's already said he would vote against the nominee. As part of the gang-of-14, he has to invoke the phrase "extraordinary cirumstances" (or at least, it will be implied), if he votes against cloture.

"BTW ... where is Boxer .. she hasn't spoken yet"
Boxer's probably burning records of her son and her own connections to Indian gaming money in Northern CA. She has been conspicuously silent about the Abramoff (sp) scandal, has she not?
Boxer, Woolsey and DiFi may have some answers to provide about Indian gamin in CA and what some of their kin have to do with that as well.
