Conservatives See Court Shift as Culmination Just the Beginning, Baby, Just the Beginning

Thank you for posting exactly what I was thinking.

The NYT hopes this is the culmination...but actually, they are the ones who influence is at culmination stage... and declining fast!

Heh. The Old Grey Lady is complaining that the conservatives have begun getting organized. I notice they don't have a problem with LIBERALS doing the same thing whenever something near and dear to them is on the line.

Just wait until Judge Stevens retires. All the stops will be pulled out, and The NY Slimes will have to formalize its alliance with Al Qaeda publicly.

It'd be funnier if it wasn't possible...

More likely Stevens (or Ginsburg) will kick the bucket.

That'll be the mother of all political battles.

What court shift?? It's like thermodynamics...Alito may replacing O'Connor, but Kennedy will shift to the left to maintain the balance. And of course, that's under the assumption Alito would fufill our assumptions!

There will be no real ideological shift on the SCOTUS, and I refuse to acknowledge such until I see some cold hard opinions 12 months from now to prove me otherwise. Don't let the media write the story until the facts are there. They don't deserve it.

"It has been a long time coming," Judge Bork said, "but more needs to be done."

Amen. Even with Alito and Roberts, we only have a maximum of four votes in favor of restoring the Constitution.

If GWB can get one more true conservative on the bench he will achieved nearly everything for which I hoped for in voting for him.

BUMP what you said. And if Bush gets TWO more opportunities to replace liberals, he will in all likelihood have succeeded in saving the United States of America from the vicious attack that the Democrats and their allies in the liberal "mainstream" newsrooms have mounted over the past 60 years in their relentless quest to turn this nation into a European-style socialist welfare state.

Victory is within our grasp.

I have some of your same reservations about Roberts, but his vote on the Oregon right to death statute was with Scalia and Thomas--a good start. We'll see with him. If behind every good man a good woman, his wife's activity in pro-life groups is a good sign. The left really wasn't in a position to go after Roberts, too. You couldn't ask for a better pedigree or professional evaluation, nor could you ask for a better Rehnquist protege. On top of that, they knew Bush had two picks. If they put up a fight over Roberts and lost, fighting over Alito would ring even more hollow than it has now.

As for Kennedy, yes, I agree. He's swings far more often for the wrong team. He's far better than Souter, but that's not saying much. What a total waste he was.

Alito was a very good pick. We need one more like him. Of course, the Dims are not going to go out without a bloodbath of disgusting proportions if W gets another appointment. It's very vital that we control the Senate. Doesn't look too good now. If we could just get another seat or two, we'd be in good shape.

Hey old republic,

Honestly, the only way W gets another appointment is if someone dies or is permanently disabled.

I can't see Stephens or Ginsberg stepping down given the push of the court as of late. It hasn't shifted all the way towards the originalists, but it's closer than what it was.

Can we hold the Senate?? To be seen. Depends on how crazy the liberals become, the price of gas, etc... I think we're in a tighter position than the Dims are in 06, but being the optimist, I say we lose a max of 2 seats (maybe gain one if all falls into place) and hold the Senate. ;) We'll see. I personally don't see how anyone can vote with the left these days, but people are doing it in droves...albeit dwindling droves over the past few years.

Whadda I know, though?

I actually thought this was a pretty good article. The SC is the only reason I voted for Bush a second time(ok - maybe the act that JK was a complete buffoon helped too). I was terribly disappointed in the Myer's nomination but Pres Bush really made up for it with the Alito nomination. Now if we can just get one or two more...

I would say that is our highest priority in the mid terms, followed closely by the House.

I wonder what Karl Rove has up his sleeve?

I read in some silly liberal piece that libs believe all of a sudden a little later this year...Bin Laden is going to show up out of some hole they have been holding him in for just the right press.

This kind of thought is reprehensible.

However, Karl Rove is a master planner...see 2002 and 2004.

I guess it all depends on how good Senator Dole is in recruiting Senate candidates.

The recent news out of West Virginia is the first good news I have seen in awhile.

Anyone have some deep, good reports (a la Human Events) on the open Senate seats?

True True!

I we will have to take the libs "concept" that a liberal should be replaced with a liberal...and blow that idea out of the water with skill and aplomb.

Remember when Byron White left, they did not replace him with a conservative.

This concept has to be vanquished skillfully, artfully and completely!

Like Reagan said:

I believe millions of people are looking forward to those critical opinions in the next 12 months.
