It seems like there would be some accurate counts being kept. Some sort of census or something. We talk about such statistics concerning other wars. Trying to weed through the left wing idealogues on the web makes it tricky though.
Regarding your other question about enemy casualties, I'm unaware of any site that claims to keep a running tab. Be nice to find one though.
just go to the link above...it is accurate. You can also go to my local newspaper, the Milwuakee Journal Sentinel, who also seems to cheerlead the numbers as they rise. I think it is morbid and somewhat despicable.
(Some weird facts) WWII and Poland
With little ramp up time (Little time to get ready).
With little surprise in when nor from where we were coming.
On the other side of the planet from the US (Our industrial, financial, Command and Control base)
In extreme climatic and environmental conditions (heat, dust
..).
While engaged in Sinai, Balkans, S. Korea, Philippines, Sudan, Columbia, Rep of Georgia, Liberia, Haiti we simultaneously waged this war.
Iraq- 1/3 LARGER than Poland
Iraq- 300,000 men in arms at wars begin 2003.
The US had 330,000 Service men in theater. We attacked with only a slight numerical advantage.
Germany in WWII attacks Poland and takes 4.5 weeks. They suffer between 8,000 to 10,000 Killed In Action during the ground combat phase. The Germans had a massive guerilla war in Poland, particularly Warsaw they had to deal with even after they defeated the Poles.
We suffer Under 300 KIA during the major ground combat phase. The United States attacks and within 21 DAYS militarily defeats an enemy.
(You be the judge)
In most history books the German campaign against Poland is considered an overwhelming success. Its presented as a marvel and normally used as a lead into discussing Blitzkrieg and so fourth.
