A day in the life of President Bush (1/29/06): photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush spent the weekend at the White House where they hosted GWB's parents. The family attended St. John's Episcopal Church this morning before the President went for a mountain bike ride.

Throughout his term, President Bush has sought to break down barriers that have prevented religion-based charities from using government funds. His $15 billion effort to fight AIDS has handed out nearly one-quarter of its grants to religious groups, and officials are aggressively pursuing new church partners that often emphasize disease prevention through abstinence and fidelity over condom use.

Award recipients include a Christian relief organization famous for its televised appeals to feed hungry children, a well-known Catholic charity and a group run by the son of evangelist Billy Graham, according to the State Department.

Secular organizations in Africa are raising concerns that new money to groups without AIDS experience may dilute the impact of Bush's historic three-year-old program.

"We clearly recognize that it is very important to work with faith-based organizations," said Dan Mullins, deputy regional director for southern and western Africa for CARE, one of the best-known humanitarian organizations.

MOONBAT ALERT OF THE WEEK: Al Sharpton participated on a National Black Justice Coalition panel in Atlanta, where he said that the Republican Party "came and invaded the Black Church and tricked people into supporting Bush." The, ahem, "Reverend" Al said, "They couldn’t come to the Black Church and talk about war, health care, education, so they take the cheap way out" by focusing on gay marriage.

Al drew a "really big" audience of 100. "I came to be informed, to get the flavor of what’s going on," Akbar Imhotep, who is starting his own church, said. "We’re very happy. About 100 were here today, and we were expecting 75."

Al's fellow panel member, Reverend Ken Samuel, pastor of the Victory for the World Church of Stone Mountain, Ga., chimed in with this gem: "Jesus' identity has been stolen! They got his credit card; they got his ID number!"

In the tradition of our nation's first ambassador, Benjamin Franklin, Vice President Cheney is one of our greatest ambassadors. Like Franklin, Dick Cheney will never be president, however. His wife, Lynne, has made it clear that 40 years of public service is enough. She clearly is looking forward to the day they retire. So we on the Dose will continue to salute him for his quiet, dignified, and invaluable service to his country. And when the day comes, we will send them both into retirement with loving, grateful hearts.

Children with homemade signs wait to greet the Vice President.

During his visit to Muscat, Oman, Vice President Dick Cheney passes under pointed arches and ornate engravings during a tour of the country's massive Grand Mosque, which spans an area of about 25 square miles. Such is the measure of respec this man commands, that even the Islamowhackos did not protest his visit to the Grand Mosque.

The normally reserved Vice President seldom shows the range of expressions President Bush does, but this one is cute. Maybe he was thinking about what a hoot it is that the Left's creation, Cindy Sheehan, may run against Sen. Diane Feinstein in the California senate primary.

Ah, the irony...the Left was gleeful when Sheehan said all those disgusting things about President Bush last summer. Now she's attending the Socialist convention in Venezuela and attacking Democrat politicans. That's so rich, it's even worth a Vice Presidential smirk.
