Don't leave us to foreclosure (A messaage to the President)
New Orleans Times Picayune ^ | 9-29-06 | Times Picayune Editorial

Don't leave us to foreclosure Sunday, January 29, 2006 Here in a community full of ruined homes, it takes no imagination to predict an epidemic of foreclosures that could devastate families, cripple the recovery of greater New Orleans and strain the nation's economy. If your flood insurance payout isn't nearly enough to cover your mortgage, you wonder if you'll have to abandon your unlivable home. If you look down the block at a dozen other damaged houses and know that your neighbors are in the same bind, you understand the fear of losing your neighborhood to blight. If you travel daily past block after block of empty, flood-marked houses, you understand how large the hole in our economy could become. This explains why U.S. Rep. Richard Baker is not giving up on his proposal for a federally backed buyout of flooded-out homeowners and small business owners. He wants Congress to create a corporation that would release Hurricane Katrina's victims from their mortgages, sell bundles of property to developers and help get storm-ravaged land back into commerce.

s arrogance and Smarminess your usual demeanor?

Dunno. Maybe so. My demeanor isn't relevant, in my opinion. What matters is whether I am telling the truth or not.

Most people, when they get told something they don't want to hear, they blame the messenger. It's a natural thing, I don't let it bother me too much.

You don't like what I say. Fine. But if you had a good comeback, you'd say that, instead of trying to put me down.

Which means I am right. Thanks (in a roundabout way) for admitting that.

Funny: I just drove the length of I-10 with a few sidetrips into Slydel, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Mobile on the way to Fla. and back.

There is damage. The worst is confined to about 3- 4 blocks inland from U.S.90. Yes I know a lot of roofs were damaged. The blue tarps tell me that.

Granted the people living on the barrier islands suffered great losses. Hopefully they were not stupid enough to stay out there. If you insist on living on a barrier island that is something you should prepare for.

However I am still not willing to pay for your non-preparation.

What's the "fair market value" of a destroyed pile of sticks and bricks on a plot of land located below sea level? It ain't what you think it is (that is the value of the home pre-Katrina).

Ultimately, it's what a jury says it is. A local jury.

Not mine, I live 400 ft. above sea level miles from the Chesapeake in Northern VA.

But, nevertheless, it doesn't matter what you are "willing" to pay. The law is the law.

Oh, that's so NOT going to happen.

No way will a jury of locals get to decide how much their own property is worth.

Well...that's the typical reply from you.
When all else fails, resort to insults.

I didn't blame you for anything.
I simply stated a fact of your posting history.

Bottom line...

you are wrong.

Oh, my. You really don't know jack about eminent domain.

No, dear, the individual property owner doesn't decide how much his own property is worth.

Jack Smith doesn't sit on his own jury, but he does sit on the jury for Janet Jones, and vice versa.

There have been many claims denied on hurricane insurance because they are saying the water pushed in by Katrina's winds actually fall under flood insurance.

Because that's what the policy said. Water damage caused by water falling from the sky is hurricane-related damage and is covered. Water damage that is caused by water that rises from the ground is damage by flood water and is not covered.

Thats crap, a hurricane broke the flood containment system and caused massive flooding...

Then you admit that it is flood damage and not falling-water damage. And flood damage is not covered in the standard policies.

Oh, my. You really don't know jack about eminent domain.

I know enough to know it will be a FEDERAL CASE and it won't be decided by ANYBODY who has anything to gain from it.

I wish you were trying the case; I'd almost consider flying down there to watch the insurance companies lawyers beat your brains in.

That is just EXACTLY what I pointed out.

When all else fails...you resort to insults.
OR, change the subject.

Storm damage vs. drainage damage -- this is going to be so interesting for the lawyers, and so frustrating for everybody else.

Well, let's face it, chick, we shouldn't be that surprised.

What successful East Coast attorney is up at 3:15 posting on an internet forum?

Somebody has some MAJOR issues.
