There is no such agenda to see life extinguished. This is about the right of people to have a next of kin act on their behalf instead of the government or other unrelated outside activist. The roles of who wants life and who wants death could easily be reversed and the assessment about whether there has been a sound judgment about the hope for recovery should still apply.

I think the more impartial recollection is that MS allowed the Schindlers to argue their wishes before a court. He didn't have to do that. He could have removed the tube without the court. He instead left it to the court after hearing the Schindler's plea. IMHO that's more than fair.

Good night - I'm done talking about Terri here. Re-arguing the Terri fight over and over and over again will get us nowhere.

I'm interested in the issues, not just that case.

That's your choice. Unfortunately, Terri's had a mindset, 'where there is life, there is hope'. I'm sure you would want any rehab that could help you and I'm sure you will get it. However, Terri had the money for such rehab that was requested by her doctors early on but it was denied by her husband. So you see - your situation is the other end of the spectrum from Terri's. You can't put yourself in her situation.

Just a thought - what if a judge decides he isn't going to grant 'your request'. A judge did it before, another judge can do it again. What if someone is collecting some long term disability on your behalf and you may be worth more alive right now, than dead.

Terri was alert and aware and it should never have gotten to the point where a probate judge actually wrote the first death order to kill a disabled person in the United States. He didn't have the authority to mandate Terri's death. He had no authority whatsoever to do what he did (Judge Greer).

Choosing the manner of someone's death is against the law. He ordered her death and chose that it would be by starvation which is against the Florida Statutes. Starvation and dehydration is a FELONY.

That Terri was at the "end of life" is such a farce. She screamed when she found out the g-tube was coming out. She SCREAMED. She knew what they were doing to her. Her dad would tell her to hang in there.

Too bad the "unwanted" government never showed up. Too bad they turned around. Terri had no civil rights that everyone on this thread enjoys. For shame.

I totally agree with you. Besides, we are a Republic not a Democracy with the inherent mob rule that a full Democracy would bring.

It's very upsetting that we have so few true leaders in our government and in public life, in general, but I have high hopes that issues like this will bring them out eventually.

Killing people like Terri is murder in my books and should be punished as such.

If those who wish to end lives even due to what they call "mercy" then they should be fully adult enough to take the heat and pay for what they've done according to what society would demand of them. Some get off. Some do time. Some do major time.

If a person wants to die, then they can die if they do it by their own hand, they shouldn't drag others into the cesspool with them.

The government has no business getting into the forcible death of innocents business just like they have no business legalizing abortion.

For years I've thought, if a girl wants to get an abortion, let her get one out of the country or illegally and face the consequences but keep the government out of the death business.

This whole mess is dragging the country down into the gutter and dirtying the soul of this nation.

Your #50. Yes, the government and special interests had extraordinary control over Terri's life and death and that includes THE ACLU, who freepers usually luv to hate. The ACLU played a big part at counsel table for Terri to be murdered.

But, remember that before they wrote the death warrant to murder Terri by a barbaric means, they robbed her rehab monies to DEATH LAWYERS, FELOS, BUSHNELL AND SOME TO HAM BASKIN.

How can you rehab someone who's just been robbed? Michael Schiavo cut off Terri's rehab and Terri still did really well. She wasn't PVS and neither is Haleigh, or Scott Thomas. Does everyone who has a brain injury need their very own watchdog group to make sure that their providers or judges aren't going to starve them to death?

Judge George Greer WAS A ZONING COMMISSIONER before he was not elected but became a PROBATE JUDGE. He CONDEMNED TERRI like a piece of blighted property.

Felos said Michael's cause was only able to succeed because of the help of the ACLU and of some others.

For years, the ACLU has been very busily fighting for the right to Physician Assisted Suicide. They know their way around the courts, all right. Back in 1999, the ACLU gave an award and a dinner (!!the irony!!) to Former Chief Justice of the Florida State Supreme Court, Gerald Kogan, who supports Physician Assisted Death.
