Does Bush Doctrine lead to Islamism? [US needs to talk to Hamas]
Pittsurghlive ^ | January 28, 2006 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 01/29/2006 6:40:24 AM PST by SJackson

The neoconservatives who dreamed up the Bush Doctrine -- promoting "democracy" would be the U.S. mission in the Middle East -- may be about to hold yet another "Seconds Thoughts" conference.

Certainly, Israel must be having second thoughts on the folly of having yielded to U.S. pressure and allowed Hamas to participate in elections. For Hamas, which is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and employs suicide-bomb attacks on civilians, has just won a sweeping political and moral victory in Palestine.

Freedom and democracy are on the march, says President Bush. Perhaps. But there is no doubt Islamism is on the march.

Not only is Hamas now the voice of Palestinian nationalism, Hezbollah used elections to establish itself as the political power in south Lebanon. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood swept over half the parliamentary seats it was allowed to contest and appears the probable beneficiary to the political estate of President Mubarak.

Families that are overly concerned about genetic purity produce things like Pat, then they wonder as to what went wrong.

Israel will wall in all Jewish settlements surrounding Jerusalem and the city itself, deny Palestinians any right of return,

The bold is where Pat lets the cat out of the bag, since right of return = destruction of Israel, and anyone who is sane knows it. Pat wrote a lot of words to deflect from the bottom line for him, but not enough words, at least not for this poster. I admire Pat less than I admire the white witch of Narnia. At least the white witch was up front about it all.

Pat is a poor excuse for Huey Long isn't he? He just doesn't have the necessities.

The Palestinian state is dead for the balance of Bush's term. Totally dead.

Buchanan is an ardent anti-semite. I've said that for six years, and have never been proven wrong.

His preposterous notion that we HAVE to deal with Hamas is simply Pat hoping and praying that, somehow, Israelis will be driven into the sea.

I don't believe we are negotiating with al qaeda. We have been trying to get the Sunnis and former Baathist to join the political solution.

No, we are not negotiating with Al Qaeda but are negotiating with folks who are comparable to Hamas in Iraq (if not more extreme). Again, I find the readiness to give Bush a pass on this to be pretty amazing.

This time Pat wrote a 'thinker'. Cutting edge stuff. And again, everyone will be soon plagiarizing Pat, no credit ever to Pat.

For all Pat's brilliant writing, he doesn't deserve the bashing from idiots.

How so. Pat makes the point W should make them an offer that they can't refuse, as he did with Kadafi. Nothing about the sea.

Get real!

He is far from an idiot, but he is blind to the linkage between Israel and the US. He, like too many Americans, would sell Israel down the drain in exchange for Arab supremacy over Israel. I don't know why, I can't begin to guess his motives and I sure as hell don't agree with him, but an idiot he is not.

I don't find anything new, deep, intellectual, etc. about the writing. It takes me no where enlightening. If it enlightens you, then fine. To me it is just the same old, same old, of selling out to evil in the name of "its not any of my business."

Pat suffers from the same self-inflating disease as JFKerry. He believes that no one else has considered a particular issue, so he goes on about it in great detail thinking that people just don't understand.

You should not confuse the ability to contemplate to be the same as brilliance, indeed the lack of hesitation to contemplate the absurd or unacceptable is the opposite of brilliant.

For example, the pros of killing everyone over the age of 75 could take hours to fully contemplate, the spread sheets could be masterfully done, the deep intricacies of how it could send a financial spider web of benefits throughout the economy could take years to fully understand. And yet, I find those that dismiss the thought within seconds to be the truly brilliant ones.

I don't see your analogy between Pat and Kerry. Kerry is a puppet for a higher order, and babbles making no points.

Pat on the other hand brought the 1990 GOP convention to it's feet with his clash of culture speech. He said what many knew, but wouldn't or couldn't express.

And Pat is still at it, but sadly has developed a defeatist position in confronting Islamists.

Your analogy on 75+ is extreme, and I'm sure Pat would nix it in a nano second. Strategies in dealing with barbarians, stick or carrot, is quite another thing.

Analogies usually are extreme, thus the clarity of making them. But how is this one? The bully on the play ground keeps punching the little kids, and every time we stick up for the little kids he throws rocks at us. So let's try walking away and see if that doesn't make the bully like us more. Is PB a babbling idiot? No, I don't think so. Is he an isolationist that has the alarming ability to flip off his moral compass? Yes. PB scares me most when I'm agreeing with him.

PB is an idiot.

Years ago Israel was supporting Hamas in order to weaken PLO.
