Unfortuneately the courts throw them all out on a technicality.
It's time to start throwing judges out on a technicality: as being technically stupid.

But anyway, I see your point. If the courts refuse to enforce the laws, then communities respond by giving police extra-legal powers. It's a shame.

The real solution --- tar-and-feathering liberal judges and running them out of the country on a rail and dumping them over the border into Mexico --- is beyond the scope and power of our system of government. So we're stuck coming up with sad alternatives like this one.

Seems a little severe.

I don't think so. Besides, I think their headline is misleading. The story says they'll impound the car, then issue a fine. Does impound mean hold it until you pay the fine, or take permanent possession of it?

In any case, I think banning installation is valid as a safety regulation. How can you possibly concentrate on driving safely if your brain (tiny and drug addled as it might be) is vibrating inside your head?

Every Harley is delivered from the factory with mufflers that quiet them to tolerable levels.

Because of the California laws. After market pipes may be louder, but they help the engine breathe better and give more horsepower.

My thoughts exactly, fine them harshly then move along. The Gov't does not have a right to take the property unless a serious felony crime has been committed.

I live in a rural area, where our "boyz from da hood" are a bunch of country white boys

I call those boyz in da wood.

One day, when my girls were little (3 & 6ish), we exited our local grocery store and right out front was a 'yute' parked in the no parking fire zone, windows down and every offensive word known to man was blasting from his speakers.

If you want to hear every offensive word known to man spewing from the mouths of nine and ten year old 'kids', just hang around your local public school at 'quitting time'. My wife and I hear them toolin' down the street every day; 'F' this and 'F' that...guess the teachers and administrators don't mind. Of course, I'm in a 'no punishment' zone...New England.

At least it sounds better than the herd of angry bees tuners. I don't ride BTW.

I would love to get a directed EMP device for my car, so if "Thumpy" is next to me in traffic sharing his music with everyone I can kill every bit of electronics in his car.

LOL! Of course, we'd be back to the Stone Age in a week if that weapon existed.

Total BS - loud pipes save lives my butt, good defensive driving does.

I ride a Harley V-Rod and you can't even hear the exhaust.

I am frequently wakened at night with my windows rattling from "secondhand music" (and Harley pipes, thuough less often). They are anathema and a bane on humankind.

And the next thing we know, we will be having to pay for all these pea-brains' hearing aids.

I have had similar thoughts but it would be so much more fun to deposit a thermite grenade in his back seat.

This thread reminds me of the Cheech and Chong movie where they have a Harley in the living room with the pipes out the window that they just sit there an rev loudly.

Those who wish to trade essential liberties for a little less noise at the stoplight...deserve neither.

In a previous life, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a car stereo installer, so I can appreciate a good system playing music I like. I think the annoying music must have bass notes at like 4 Hertz.

I see the same problem around here. The cops will nail you for throwing a loud party but they drive right past bass-thumpers and the little Hondas with no mufflers without giving them a second look. Some dickhead judge must be throwing the cases out.

...prohibits the use and even installation of some enhanced speakers.

Unless they are specifically targeting large subwoofers that over-emphasize frequencies from 20 - 1000Hz...they would be better off limiting the output wattage of the amplifiers driving those systems.
It isn't necessarily the speakers...it's the amplifiers. 1000 watts in a car is simply ridiculous. Anybody who can't get it done with 50 watts per channel isn't doing it right.

Explain to me how having an excessively loud sound system in your car is an "essential liberty".
