Saddam Hussein Removed From Court Room

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein's trial collapsed into chaos shortly after resuming Sunday, with one defendant dragged out of court and the defense team walking out in protest. The former Iraqi leader was then escorted out after he shouted "down with traitors" and refused his new court-appointed lawyers.

The new chief judge, Raouf Abdel-Rahman, pressed ahead with the proceedings even after the opening drama, hearing three prosecution witness, as he sought to assert tight control over the court.

After 4 1/2 hours, the trial was adjourned until Wednesday, though Abdel-Rahman said if that day turns out to be a public holiday, the trial will resume Thursday. The Islamic new year is approaching, but its exact date depends on the sighting of a new moon to start the lunar month.

There must be some kind of drug that would make his death look like it was from natural causes.

<< Saddam Hussein Removed From Court Room >>

Keep the bastard out, [Unless he is shackled and gagged] try him in his absence, sentence him - and execute the sentence.

And then try his "lawyers."

If this keeps getting dragged on like it's going to take forever to try that excuse-of-a-human being Saddam, the average Iraqi will start losing confidence in the civil judicial system, and start looking toward the mullah-run Islamic Sharia as a "means of justice". That would be dangerous.

Sure'd be nice if Iraq took a pointer from Romania on the trial of Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife. Short trial, and then afterwards, instead of leading back to their cell as they thought, led them to - surprise - an awaiting firing squad.

Using hindsight I bet most wish a grenade had been dropped into his pit before they pulled him out. Doesn't sound like he's been a wealth of information and that seems his only value.

The Iraqis are treating this as the ultimate reality TV, and if this is the Kurdish judge...Saddam is not going to be running the proceedings as he was!

As long as this drags on, the Iraqis and other arabs are reminded what an evil madman he was. This is a good thing.

I believe the ultimate outcome is Saddam dancing at the end of a rope. I hope they televise that too.

My Daughter just came back from Baghdad (in the Army). She said that Iraqis were really focused on the trial. The trial needs to go forward with the evidence of the crimes against his people. The more Saddam asks out in the trial, the more it hurts him.

I think we can look forward to the day when his miserable life comes to an end. Hopefully his case won't end up like Milsovich(SP).

He can't stand to hear the truth about himself, so like other cowards he tries to distract.

Funny how these villians are such cowards. Hitler in his bunker and this creep in his foxhole. Both are cowards. Insane deserves death as soon as possible. This is a waste of people's time. It's a circus.

Saddam should be forced to be bound up and placed in a strait-jacket and muzzled like they did with Hannibal Lecter. Also, his entire legal team should be forced to live with and be imprisoned with him. Until they play fair they should be incarcerated.

Either that or let the Iraqis beat them all to death with their shoes.

Milsovich's trail is bound to end in failure due the very conditions the US opposes at the Court in the Hague,e.g, the prosecuter is allowed to cobble together laws from all over the world and then force the defendent to struggle with the various laws. The Brit prosecutor has failed to get any convictions using laws from over 20 countries. If the Court were to set out a written body of laws under which defendents were tried, the US would probably still be against the idea.... But the current circumstances whereby the Court can shop Italy, Germany, Russia, Canada, Poland, South Africa, etc. (you get the picture) for a law to use against someone is unacceptable.

They need to hold this trial for the eyes of the Iraqi people and the world.......not for Saddam's pleasure!

Him and his cohorts can watch it on TV like everybody else, and they must all be kept out of the courtroom.

Geez, great defence Saddam.

Go nuts in court and assert your authority over the court.

Freepers, hard to imagine him as a violent, aggressive despot, isn't it?
