Cantwell's campaign gets boost from a high-profile colleague (Hillary Clinton)
The Seattle Times ^ | January 28, 2006 | Keith Ervin

Posted on 01/28/2006 5:09:13 PM PST by Seattle Conservative

Sen. Hillary Clinton gave a fundraising boost to Sen. Maria Cantwell's re-election Friday, headlining a Seattle luncheon that attracted more than 1,200 people, according to the Cantwell campaign.

The crowd paid $150 to $1,200 a plate to hear the first-term New York senator, considered in political circles as a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 and either the best or worst decision the party could make in its effort to recapture the White House. The lunch, inside Qwest Field, was closed to the media. The Cantwell campaign declined to say how much money was raised.

A group of Democratic military veterans issued a letter criticizing Clinton for holding a fundraiser they said could siphon away money from local Democratic candidates and for "your strong support for the immoral war in Iraq."

One of the veterans involved in the protest letter was Jim Rassman, who credited 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry with saving his life during combat in Vietnam, and who campaigned for him.

Asked about Hamas' surprise victory in the Palestinian parliamentary election, Cantwell said she supports Bush's tough line on the party the United States has on its list of terrorist groups.

Bush said Friday the U.S. would cut aid to the Palestinian government unless Hamas abolished the militant arm of its party and stops calling for the destruction of Israel.

"I think the president's statements were right on that," she said. "He wasn't going to deal with a party or an organization that continued to promote the destruction of another nation that is one of our greatest allies."

Yeah, it got all the way across the Cascades to the east side, too.

Yuck, what an "endorsement"....

You mean this?;

"The crowd paid $150 to $1,200 a plate to hear the first-term New York senator, considered in political circles as a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 and either the best or worst decision the party could make in its effort to recapture the White House. Why would Hillary come to this neck of the woods? There are so many wussy, girlie men in Washington State (actually, in Seattle) that we have - count 'em - three women in charge: Fraudoire, bin Murray, and Cantdomuchwell. I guess they like these "men" like having their "mothers" in charge??? So I guess Hillary would fit right in, but there is absolutely no reason that Maria should feel threatened by a Republican challenger.

I despise Cantwell as much as the next guy, but I must warn you, she did actually do one thing right. She took a hard stand INSISTING that if ever we did drill in ANWR, the the oil taken out HAD TO be sold in the the United States. Apparently the deal has already been cut, BP (British Petroleum) is the one who was the highest bidder on drilling rights, and it's already a done deal that the oil WILL NOT be sold to the US, it will go to Japan. Why are the Republicans again selling our and our national resources out to foreigners. Cantwell is right on this issue.

I wonder how much how much the cost of this event was understated.
We should find out in, oh, 2009.

In the Wall Street Journal in 2004, Rassman wrote:

Yep, sounds like a real Republican to me.

I never saw it in writing, but I heard her on FOX News, insisting that ANWR oil MUST be sold in the US (if and when we ever drill there), and some idiot Republican was arguing the case for selling drilling rights to foreigners (BP) and allowing them to sell the oil overseas. I couldn't believe she actually came out on the correct side of an issue, but then I never heard another word about it.

Even if there is some convoluted reason behind it, there is NO excuse for an R to be arguing such a position. There are so manys stupid people on both sides. Honestly, I don't call myself a Republican any longer, just a conservative.

Yes, since Hill was with her, she probably showed her buddy, Maria how to not declare donations for a fundraiser.
Wonder if Hillary will urge Maria to give some of the Abramoff-related $s back like she did, or, if Maria will take lead from her colleague, Patty Osamama Mama Murray and keep them: (this is an older article, but I don't recalling hearing or seeing anything more recent where she had decided to give the $s back).

Abramoff Scandal - Hypocrite Democrat's Cantwell's Double Standard

Cantwell's Double Standard
CANTWELL SAYS NO TO SPECIAL INTERESTS BUT YES TO ABRAMOFF LADEN CASH???
Maria Cantwell Claims She’s Not Beholden To Special Interests, But Refuses To Return Tainted Special Interest Cash

“‘For Far Too Long, The Powerful Special Interests Have Controlled The Agenda In Our Nation’s Capital, Ignoring The People’s Interest,’ Cantwell Said.” (“Wealthy Washington Senate Candidate Refuses PAC Money,” National Journal’s CongressDaily, May 10, 2000)

Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) Refuses To Return Campaign Contributions Connected To Admitted Felon Lobbyist Jack Abramoff

Maria Cantwell Has No Intention Of Returning Abramoff Tainted Campaign Contributions. “Other Northwest lawmakers also received contributions from tribes connected to Abramoff, the report said, including Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash. ($10,000); and former Rep. George Nethercutt, R-Wash. ($7,000). A spokeswoman for Cantwell said the senator did not plan to return the money, but declined further comment. . . . Money received by Cantwell came from the Agua Caliente, Saginaw and Pueblo of Sandia tribe in New Mexico.” (Matthew Daly, “Murray Won’t Return Money From Tribes Connected To Abramoff,” Seattle Post – Intelligencer, January 5, 2006)

Even New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) Is Returning Tainted Tribal Contributions. “Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a fellow New York Democrat, is taking the opposite tack, donating $2,000 received from tribes Abramoff had worked with but deciding to keep contributions from lawyers at his firm.” (Devlin Barrett, “Abramoff’s Money: Not All Lawmakers Are Giving It Up,” The Associated Press, January 5, 2006)

Oil is fungible. It doesn't matter to whom it is sold.
