Clinton to support Alito filibuster Says she’ll join Sen. Kerry in blocking Alito’s nomination, putting her at odds with top Democrats

BY GLENN THRUSH WASHINGTON BUREAU

January 27, 2006, 9:41 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday announced she'll join potential 2008 presidential rival John Kerry in voting to filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, just as top Democratic leaders predicted the effort is likely doomed.

With three Democratic senators pledging support for Alito, the New Jersey conservative seems virtually assured of being confirmed by the full Senate Monday or Tuesday, party leaders predicted Friday. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters in Washington that "everyone knows" Senate Democrats couldn't muster the 40 votes needed to support a last-ditch filibuster.

The interesting question to me is-----would they have acted the same no matter who it was who beat their boy Gore?

If it hadn't been Bush, it would have been who, McCain, who?

That's an interesting question.......it can't be just THIS guy, right? It's the loss of the power?

But think how FAR OUT they've gone this time, with Alito; what's left? They might have to accuse the next nominee of murder to try to keep him off.

I think it would have been whoever it was. My sister-in-law is a hater of Bush. A while back she said something about the death toll in Iraq, and actually said it was MORE THAN in WWII...a real educated liberal there!

Remember before he was elected and somebody asked him what he would do if he didn't win -- and he just said, "Go back home and go fishing with the old man?"

Remember that? He meant it.

Maybe it galls them that he's there to serve, not gather "IOUs" all due for something in the future.

Here's somethign to set them off:

Bush said the presidency had not changed his priorities and he highly recommended the job.

"I will tell you, if given a chance to do it again, I would have said, 'You bet.' It's been a fantastic experience."

I think it helps to think about it like that.

It's hard to do though because McCain really has no principles..........LOL.

That's the million dollar question. I don't know the answer, though I do know the Supreme Court was all the marbles in the 2000 election for many college friends of mine who are hard leftists. You can add the Kyoto Treaty, the ICC and whatever other global effort with the underlying theme of neutering the United States. Then there is abortion, health care and tax cuts.

I think less talked about until the Alito nomination, under the guise of the NSA issue, is that he is reclaiming the authority of the executive branch in multiple areas. And finally, by giving life in policy and in rhetoric to conservative, traditional American beliefs he not only won two elections but dismantled some of the progress of the left.

A foundation they have been trying to blow up, in a slow and deliberate way, for decades. I think we can judge how close he is to erasing their progress on any single issue by how loud and outrageous they are.

Is your father still alive? Mine died in 1985. I kick myself for not caring then like I do now, can't ask any questions.

Of course; that's like kryptonite to liberals.

Any idea what Signal Corp was?

The Signal Corps were in charge of setting up and maintaining communications "in the field" during wartime. It's how the rear eschelon communicated with those "on the front" and out in the battlefield or theater of operations.
