WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Friday the race for the White House in 2008 was wide open and called potential Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton "formidable."
"This is an unusual year because this is the first time there hasn't been a kind of natural successor in the party," Bush said in an interview with CBS News. His vice president, Dick Cheney, has ruled out a run for the top job.
Told that Clinton, a former first lady and current New York senator, seemed to be running pretty hard for the Democratic nomination, Bush replied, "She's formidable."
The president said it was "hard to tell" who the leading Republican candidates might be.
"The minute I start speculating, you'd make all kinds of news with it, and it would interject me in the race. ... Two wide-open primaries with no sitting vice president running in either primary, so this is -- I can't remember a time when it's been this open."
Bush said the presidency had not changed his priorities and he highly recommended the job.
"I will tell you, if given a chance to do it again, I would have said, 'You bet.' It's been a fantastic experience."
His biggest disappointment?
"The bitterness in Washington, D.C. ... the tone in Washington."
*excellent*
Lets make those Dem heads explode, with a bill to repeal Amendment XXII. I don't think the President really wants a third term, but it'd be fun to watch them freak.
Need a bigger spoon to stir the pot?
What you said. Twisted amusement. :)
Wow, you two really *LIKE* the blood sport-type stuff, eh?
And apparently you're damn good at it! :-)
was given a judgeship the other day by Bush!!!! LOL
So Bush says the witch is formidable? Strange words. His wife says favorable things about a woman president...as if she is preparing us to accept Hillary's run for pres. or something. Makes me wonder whose side they are on. And senior Bush too. So palsy walsy with the Clintons.
MdorBUSt about 8 replies down has it right...
HIllman had been up for a judgeship before the Abramoff investigation....and his was just one on a list that Bush put up on Thursday..
BUT, it is enough to drive the dems CRAZY!!! LOL
OH...I forgot...thanks for the link...it was "interesting"..
Over @ Airliners.net, we're just about as bad a DU. Other than me, there are only 2 or 3 real conservatives left. We have a few RINOS and McCainites, but I'd say 90% are the kook liberals and U.S. & Bush hating Euros.
And you hang out there, why???
Now, listen: I happened over to DU the other night after everybody on the live thread was going on and on about it.
I actually was reading some stuff about "camps." Do they honestly believe that?
It was on a thread about leaving the US, which I didn't take seriously at all after I read one response that said that one of those countries down in the Caribbean that is the size of a postage stamp -- can't remember the name right off but it's a big snorkling place -- was a great place to live; I might have taken her more seriously if she hadn't added, "But if you don't like hurricanes, don't leave near the beach," as if you could get away from one;
Then I remembered that they are just dysfunctional people.
See there, it's all one big plan!
Despite the fact that the mods there are mostly liberal kooks, I've never been banned or suspended. Unlike here where I've been suspended for calling someone an idiot or because someone pinged me.
Please, Hillary...Don't run!
The world's premier poker player strikes again.
Ever deeper in your debt, COEXERJ145!
Gee, was it Aruba?
