Darn right! Straight up or down vote. Senators trying to implement a filibuster will only look like foolish obstructionists.
Of course Prior offered examples, right? Come on, Prior, your constituents have a right to know how YOU think. Let's actually see if you read one of Alito's decisions and can make an agrument as to how it demonstrates bias, or literacy, or whatever. If I recall correctly, that question has bit more than one of you Senators on the butt, hasn't it?
Translation: Senator Pryor realizes that Judge Alito is an excellent choice for the Supreme Court. However, the special interests who finance his campaigns and the party bosses who determine his committee assignments and pork rationing are opposed to Judge Alito. On the other hand, Senator Pryor's constituents overwhelmingly support Judge Alito.
So what is a career politician to do in such a case? He's to (ahem) show the Wisdom of Solomon and split the difference. He'll vote to let Judge Alito be confirmed, and then vote against confirming him. That should please everyone a little bit, right?
I'll take what I can get out of this hack Pryor. All we really need is his cloture vote.
So Pryor will vote "Present" on cloture, thus supporting a filibuster? Or will he vote "No?" Cloture takes 60 affirmative votes.
Note to myself: Remember this occasion when a couple of years from now I hear Senator Kerry say "I voted to approve Judge Alito...before I voted to NOT approve him!"
...and again the democrat party faithful will say to each other, "Bush is a dumbass, heavy drinking, frat boy who swaggers when he walks and butcher's the Queens English, but he beat us again!!"
There needs to be lots of bandages and towels in the House Tuesday evening - to hand out to those who slash their wrists when Dubya swaggers down the aisle again, grinning ear to ear - just hours after confirmation of yet another of his Supreme Court nominees.
God, I love it!!!
If only Alito (Alieoto to Ted) could be immediately sworn in and walk in with the other justices. Or better yet, administer the oath in the well of the house!!
I'm getting too excited here. 'Just need to go get a vodka/tonic and sit back and quietly enjoy the moment... :o)
let's just see if it holds, its not Tuesday yet.
Sure is fun watching the Dems these days, now that the far-Left nutter organizations seem to be the ones with all the cash.
