Last September, Danish author Kåre Bluitgen was set to publish a book on the Muslim prophet Muhammad, but there was just one catch: he couldn’t find an illustrator. Artistic representations of the human form are forbidden in Islam, and pictures of Muhammad are especially taboo — so three artists turned down Bluitgen’s offer..

Am I the only one to find this ironic in the extreme (to be charitable)?
Artists are among the freest spirits around, not bound by the circumscribed limits we mere mortals must observe. This can be observed over and over in both word and deed.

So I'm not buying this.

I prefer the obvious alternative motivation to "being noble and respecting" a murderous culture.

I call the alternative fear.

Actually - The Ten Commandments say the same thing.

The commandment does NOT say that you shouldn't make false idols - it DOES say that you should not make "any graven image" or "any likeness of anything " in heaven, on earth or in the sea.

I wonder why we Christians or Jews don't pay attention to that particular commandment? That's something that always bothered me as a kid.
