Molly Ivins facing third round of cancer
American-Statesman ^ | January 27, 2006

Molly Ivins, battling breast cancer afresh, sounds as feisty as ever.

The South Austin resident continues writing her left-of-center column, raising money for the journal where she forged her tart take on politics and, of course, cheerfully gigging Republicans such as the well-coifed governor of Texas. Ivins, 61, tongue-in-cheeked that Gov. Rick Perry's trip to Iraq this week will slow anti-American insurgents. "The mere sight of his hair will do a world of good," she said.

She chatted with two visitors to her home office in Travis Heights without donning her wig of reddish-blond locks; her pate was nearly bald.

The California native, who grew up in the tony River Oaks section of Houston, fielded her latest (and third) cancer diagnosis around Thanksgiving. Surely she could be excused for feeling sorry for herself or slowing down.

"Actually," she said, "I feel pretty good." Renewed chemotherapy appears to be helping.

Ivins has all but forbidden gifts of food and other items. She was overwhelmed with well-intended advice and goodies after she wrote of her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. The outpouring kept her from telling readers of the recurrences in 2003 and two months ago, her assistant, Betsy Moon, said.

Very sad news, prayers for her in this difficult time.

As others have said, her politics stink, but have had 2 friends go through this and it's a terrible disease.

Unlike some other liberal women, she hasn't wished disease on conservatives so I hope her suffering is minimal.

You are both better people than I am.

I hope you can get beyond this. Otherwise you're no better than a DUmmocrat.

Prayers offered for Ms. Ivins.

It's low-class whoever does it, from any political perspective.

Hope she recovers. I may dislike her politics, but I dislike her disease much, much more.

Good luck Molly.

She seems to have the right attitude about the disease. I hope she's able to fight it.

I am trying very hard to be sympathetic to the lady, but her vicious lying during the Clinton administration was beyond the pale.

She is a Hillary-like attack-dog who wants to turn the world into a socialist hell on Earth.

Perhaps she will have a Paul Robeson-style deathbed conversion--then I can feel guilty. :-(

I love that cartoon! My favorites are when the alligators next door to the zebra are featured! (or are they crocs, never can remember). Another classic was the yo-yo one.

Molly I, drives most us Texans nuts. She is haughty, nasty and has a grudge for W.

I wish her well inspite of my feelings for her.

Otherwise you're no better than a DUmmocrat.

You give the DU'ers more credit then they are worth. I lurked over there when Reagan died. They were celebrating.

Hopefully Molly is a survivor from the big C.
Then I hope she goes back to school for reeducation for politics.

Sorry to say this, but you'll need to make that 4 out of 6 people on Free Fepublic. I consider her an enemy of the USA. She is just as hateful and dangerous (perhaps more so) as the guys our soldiers are fighting in Iraq.

I dislike Molly Ivins' views, but I HATE HATE HATE cancer, and wouldn't want anyone to have it. I pray she recovers

Here's hoping Ms. Ivins lives to be 100 years old.
I hate to see any human suffer...and before anyone mentions it, Osama bin Laden is subhuman.
Keep in mind that we all have Lefty loved-ones.
