Diane Rehm Disputes Bush Volunteering for Viet Nam
Diane Rehm Show - Friday, 27 Jan 06

Posted on 01/27/2006 10:21:06 AM PST by LK44-40

Diane Rehm vigorously disputed on her radio program on Friday that George Bush had ever volunteered to serve in Viet Nam.

Rehm's guest, conservative journalist Fred Barnes, mentioned the familiar assertion that at one point during his Air Guard service, the President did volunteer to go to Viet Nam, an offer that was not accepted.

Rehm responded with incredulity saying that she had never heard such a claim. Some of her callers -- typically left wing -- joined in her scornful dismissal of any such notion. The matter was left with the agreement that Barnes would research the matter and call back into the show on Monday.

The Diane Rehm Show is produced by WAMU in Washington and is widely heard on public radio stations.

Diane Reahm is THE goddess of the Washington liberals and other elites in the hinterlands because she is "so even handed" and doesn't let her guests "get out of control and argue" (read: present conservative view points). I'm VERY surprised that she invited Fred Barnes onto her program. She almost never interviews conservatives, so he was in rarified air for sure. Probably because she uses some of the Weekly Standard editors and writers to represent conservatives when she needs one (and they do a good job). The callers are 99% raving liberals and make non-sensical points with many references to "thoughtful pieces" and thanking Diane for her "thoughtful" guest, etc.

I think Lee Marvin may be a plant. He doesn't go overboard but from his past posts I just don't think he's a freeper at heart.

Ah, but did you see his snarky reply (#45) and my totally level headed and reasonable response (#60)?

(that's supposed to be self deprecating humor, you know)

"I've never heard that Bush had voluneered to go but was turned down. Any more info on this?"

Bang HERE!

If anybody has Fred Barnes' email address, feel free to send him this link.

IN know Barnes has to push his new book, but these trips to leftist shows are getting nowhere. He made an appearance on Jon Stewart's unfunny show earlier this week and it was nothing but Bush hatred from Jon and the crowd.

LOL. good one.

why? He didn't make any sense or do anything but whine in a very MOVEON/KOS sort of way.

My first post I asked a question. He whined and threw insults. I have now posted 4 very reasonable points (#60). Let's see if he can provide any rational basis to doubt my suspicion other than whining "no I'm not and you're mean!"

(this is fun)

How many times and ways must the left beat that dead horse?

Oh, so you're Diane Rehm's listener?!

HAHAHA. only on NPR could someone as completely unlistenable as Diane Rehm get a job as a radio host.

Outside of poisoning the taxpayer-funded airways with her vitriol, has Rehm ever volunteered to serve the country she hates?

Kerry was in Vietnam? Why didn't he ever mention it when he was running for President?

Indeed. He would have won easily. :^)

Diane Rehm has to have the worlds worst radio voice. She sounds like a 100 year old women trying to remember what she was planning on saying.

If you think that I am shilling for Rehm or have any inclination to defend her, you are mistaken.

I put the post up thinking it illustrated how the left lives in their own crazed universe as I thought there was no question that GW ~did~ volunteer.

I don't have links, but yes, he volunteered (while serving in TANG), but was turned down because they had enough volunteers that they were requiring a minimum number of flight hours that Bush had not yet logged.

And he flew the wrong sort of aircraft, a strategic interceptor (and an obsolescent one at that, the unit was in the process of converting to the more modern F-106 when Bush left it).

I don't know how accurate this is, but another reason that Bush ws turned down was that the aircraft he was qualified in wasn't being flown in Nam. Hence, no need for his serviecs there.

Who is this person? Just because she had no first hand knowledge doesn't mean it didn't happen.

When are these freaks going to "move on"?

We already know the answer we need. Bush will fight. The Dems won't.

How tedious.
